Gamma GT

I was previously a heavy binge drinker, i had liver function tests which were ok but slightly raised GGT. I stopped drinking completely a couple of months ago and had the blood test again, it has risen rather than going down.

i am otherwise very fit, healthy BMI and a good diet.

Does anyone know why this may have happened please?

GGT is pretty sensitive for lots of things and it's not often used in isolation. Was the test done at your GP or independently? If it wasn't at your GP then best thing to do is make an appointment and get them to check you over and do a full liver panel to see if any of the other markers are raised and then take it from there.
