I am having my gallbladder removed next week. All being well I will be having keyhole surgery and out the same day. Does anyone know how long the surgeon advises you are off work for? Many thanks

Wishing you well and speedy recovery you would need a few weeks off, if you have keyhole surgery Full open removal 6-8 weeks off everyone heals at different Rate. But best to consult the surgeon or your Gp.

Thank you. Yeah I will it was just more a rough estimate for me to sort stuff out. Pre op said 4-6 week but nhs site says 2 week to resume normal activities which seems quick.

Hi, I had my Gallbladder out in February and my surgeon said 2 weeks but I was pretty much fine after a week though still a bit sore. Good Luck with the Op, one of the best things I’ve ever done.

That’s good to know. Did you return to work after two weeks? Thank you

Yes, I did but I guess it depends on what type of job you do.

Hi sammyjoe, I was admitted.into the er and after 16 days in three I had an ercp and now in a week getting gallbladder removed. I'm terrified to say the least . How my liver will cope my gut is saying don't get it but I don't want to be sick ever again. You have any problems after removal?

Hi Contra21,

Honestly, it was the best thing I ever did, I was in so much pain with my gallstones and suffering constantly with really bad heartburn and indigestion. Had absolutely no problems post op, can eat and drink normally. You will be a bit sore after the op, but this settles after 1-2 weeks. Good Luck with it and try not to be scared, the relief of no longer being in pain will be worth it.

Hi 👋

May I ask if you have liver disease?

Reason being I do and I was refused once, as my Child Pugh Score was B, it is now A, so I am having another discussion with the Surgeon, now that I am at the stage that this is now an option.

Take good care, I'm sure you will be up and running sooner than you think, just one day we a time and there's no rush. Better safe than sorry 🙂

hi, my op was postponed night before so I’m 9 days in. Had a bad time if I’m honest, mostly due to reaction to anathestic and the codeine. Spent first 4 days being sick, as you’ll know that’s not good with stitches! I can’t do much. Tried a little walk but everything hurts and pulls and can’t sleep it’s just so uncomfortable. Dropped the drugs but still need them. Like you tired. My digestion has caused huge problems for me. I was badly constipation for a few days. My plan was to take fybogel has advised but with being sick couldnt. Now have piles 🥹 today I have started with bad runs.. I’ve heard this can last a while! I’ll keep you posted. Hope you continue to get better

Night before postponement must have been annoying, just as you had everything prepared. Sorry you didn't react well to anaesthetic & codeine. I have felt gassy but not nauseous. Sneezing or coughing or laughing hurt, so vomitting must be hard. I had no poo for about 36 hrs after op, plenty of fibre going in, but everything was just a bit slower than ususal after the missed meals & GA. Bowels fine since, but i normally eat a high fibre diet anyway. I am fond of live yoghurt to try and rebalance the gut microbiota after digestive upsets, but should probably go with the low fat versions for now. I hope things improve for you soon.
