Yesterday I was supposed to have my gallbladder removed. However, before the op the consultant informed me that they would try keyhole if this was not possible they would need to open me up.
I can around to the Consultant telling me they had had to stop the operation as it was too dangerous to continue to liver. They had only inserted 2 probs into me
In the last 12 months I have had 1 MRIs 1 CT and 2 ultrasounds
My questions are how was the size of my liver a shock ?
What could be so dangerous they stopped the operation and not opened me up?
I hope someone has an answer or advice
Thanks
Mick

Only the consultant can answer your questions. I am sorry you've had this setback and hope you get satisfactory answers and a new plan for where to go from here. If you have problems getting answers the PALS team at the hospital might be able to help.
I had exactly the same problem as you. The doctors told me if they opened me up there was a greater chance of sepsis. More important the veins due to the enlarged liver were enlarged and not in normal locations. If they cut a vein during surgery, I would bleed to death. This was 2 years ago. Since then I I have my gallbladder and have had 17 ERCPs to correct blockage. My prayers with you. Wayne
As NieceByMarriage has said these are questions that your own health care professional is best placed to answer, as only they have access to your medical records.
We suggest talking this through with your own doctor or health care professional in the first instance.

The consultant rang me up this afternoon. Apparently my gallbladder is Frozen (stuck) to my liver and they need more room to try to release it and to have time to get an hdu bed available just in case. More room comes obviously by dieting more as this will take the weight of the liver off the gallbladder. Expected to be back in sometime early 2025
