yes i'v had my gallbladder removed. most people that have their gallbladder removed do so without any problems. its usually pain that alerts people to gallstones. eat small meals. you can have quite a few meals in the day but make them small so that you body can digest the food easier. also dont eat any fry ups or greasy foods. no cheese butters and fats and creams. even oils are very hard to tolerate .eat things like fish, chicken without the skin. rice pasta with no creamy sauce. fruites and veg. pulses and nuts. try not to eat prossesed foods as they are full of fat salt and sugar. we know what fatty foods are. no pizzas. this will all help you have less pain. you may need omperazole for indegestion and acid. and buscopan for cramps. also you will need a good strong pain killer for pain. if the pain gets really severe go straight to the out patient emergency dept of your local hospital as the stones can move into the bile duct and you may need emergency treatment. Try not to think of compilcations at this point as they are unusual and you dont want to be getting your self all worried for no reason. all the best and keep in touch there are many people here who have had their gallbadder removed and had no problems what so ever. they are usually in the hospital in the morning and back home just around tea time. love grace xoxoxo

Thankyou Grace,I've had gallstones for years but only been last 18mnth that i have had the pain so i know what brings it on and how to try to avoid that frm happening x. I was more interested in info about any downside or probs that could arise from the removal of the gallbladder.During the intense pain when larger stones are in bile duct and it feels like heart is getting tighter n tighter I have not called emergency coz i know Im already booked in to see consultant and would rather know all the ins & outs of op before its done. The gallbladder stores bile and compresses to squeeze out bile when we eat to release the digestion juices,so Im wondering what happens after its removal. The liver is still gonna produce the bile,so where does it go,does it go straight into the digestive system automatically via the ducts as there no longer is a bag(gallbladder) to store it in.I want to know what happens inside after removal and any poss probs? Xx

once the gallbladder is removed the bile just keeps running and thats why once its removed you still dont want to eat fatty greasy meals as the more of that we eat the more bile it takes to digest it. i didnt want to talk about all the scenarios that can go wrong as there are many people those days getting their gallbladder removed and i dont want to frighten them. i had a stone in the bile duct and it calcified and i had to have my bile duct reconstructed. i had/have what it called mirizzis syndrome; the operation took 5 hours. you could google it to find out more of what can go wrong. thats why im saying if you get severe pain to go to the hospital. it can be life threatening to have a stone in the bile duct. i think the only thing one can do after gallbladder removal is have a sensible diet and do exercise. there is nothing else one can do. also it all depends on the state of your gallbladder. bits of mine were sent for tests and all came back okay. thankfully. if you google what can go wrong after gallbladder removal surgery you will see most of the things if this is what you want to see i suggest doing that. i dont think its a good idea as it will just scare you. i did feel sick for a few months after but feeling better now and not feeling sick and nauseas so often. all the best. love gracae oxoxo

Yes i understand what your saying, although the more informed i am and have knowledge of whats occuring the better i will deal with it.I had my ducts checked out(scan) a few weeks ago to see if there was damage and to check to see if any stones still stuck in there, thankfully all good. The actual gallbladder was still packed with stones though, since the scan Ive had 1 big episode which was worst one yet, Im very good at mind over matter so i get through it ,Although my son wanted to phone ambulance when he was here for one of the episodes,i wouldnt let him.I would rather wait for the scheduled opp ,dont know why !!lol. Yes i fully understand it can be life threatening and i was pretty surprised at my Gp's laid back attitude about it i must say,but she has in some way helped me to remain calm n focussed when the episodes occur. Will let ya know how i get on next mnth when i go to see consultant :) god bless xx

Wow thats good to know,i didnt know it would be in n out of hosp on same day.thankyou. The 'big'episodes (as i call them) are few n far between now ibut when they do happen its excrutiating.Ive given birth twice with no drugs of any kind, not even gas&air and that was a walk in the park in comparison to gallstone escape(again my term for it) :) .Thanku Tracy &Grace xxx
