US Scan

Just had ultrasound scan and radiographer said no enlarged liver and spleen is normal. But the liver surface was not smooth. I know I have fibrosis. Will this be the cause? And how bad can it be to show up on scan?

I’m no expert but from my understanding not being smooth is an indication of fibrosis. However I put very little faith in an ultrasound when it comes to viewing the surface of the liver. It took an mri with elastography before they said anything about my liver texture. Before that I was just told it was enlarged. When I had the ultrasound I had cirrhosis btw. I’m in the states.

Thanks for your reply. It's all a bit new to me and I get anxious about things. You have helped x

No worries Robert, I have had severe anxiety for a decade so I know what you mean. If you are in the USA ask your doc for a fibrosure blood test. It gives a rough estimate of what fibrosis stage you are in. It’s not 100% but it’s pretty good. You get results in around 2 days.

HiI just had fibroscan it was 24,7 that means

I had f4 or cirrhosis

I don’t have any symptoms

First in November my ast and asf wa slightly elevated and ultrasounds showed inhomogeneos surface with mild nodularity

I ve never expected the giro scan that bad

I had a hep c in 2008 that was self resolved and never had any virus load after 3 tests ( the last was done in November)

I drink very moderately (stopped in February completely)

Eat very healthy, exercise….

Now I got all kinds of blood tests to see what triggered such a damage to my liver,

Any thoughts?

I am tricking out and in the stage of shock as you are.

I never thought in a million years that I had liver disease. It never even for one nano second occurred to me. So I think that there defo needs more education and awareness of this illness and certainly GPS need to be more vigilant in checking all diabetics to establish whether liver disease is the cause of it. My understanding is that its the next big thing due to our life styles. I just hope that more funding will be ploughed into treatment and research. I just think I need a bit of time to process it all and this wonderful forum cheers me up with encouragement and just being available to have little chats like this. Take care x.
