can anyone please advise and recommend a travel insurance that covers cirrhosis I’ve been on a few websites but not sure how to answer the question do you have a terminal illness if cirrhosis is not curable does that mean it’s terminal and I have to answer yes I’m currently symptom free and on no medication managing the best I can but don’t want to answer wrong and find insurance is void. Sorry if I’ve gone on a bit but not sure what to do for best
Thanks for any advice

Hi- I have NAFLD cirrhosis - my own bank TSB insurance would t cover me and about 4 more.
Stay sure will but I chose Saga.
They all ask the same questions.
I put fatty liver then it asks you is it cirrhosis and reply yes.
And then they ask you - the questions about hospital- jaundice - varices etc and if your answers are no - they will insure you.
Mine is only single trips@ 109 pound.
The stay sure one I looked at last week was 300plus for the multi trips.
Good Luck and stay safe- don’t e very travel without this extra insurance.
My holidays are in Europe wouldnt risk a flight longer than 4 hours myself - im too scared of the pressure on the plane incase any varices appear even though I don’t have any!
As I am lucky enough to go away 4 or 5 times a year I have an annual policy with Staysure. It’s costs me just under £50 monthly. I have cirrosis & h ypertension.
Hi I was initially with StaySure but this year have an annual policy - Gold Plus as there are different levels (Europe) with AllClear its £550 for the year and also includes my husband who also has some medical conditions. I have Cirrhosis and Portal Hypertension, no varies. I also travel (a lot) with work ie each month and have been on long haul flights. Just my experience not saying you should or shouldn't as I know there has been one person who had issues in flight. (1 out of ????) who knows, guess there is always a risk but so a personal choice.
If you are in the UK and have a parent or close family member that is either in or was in the UK Military you can apply to become a member of the Armed Forces Pension Society with access to annual travel insurance that really is much less restrictive than regular companies. They just need to know you don't have a terminal condition or serious mobility issues. Otherwise you just have to shop around I'm afraid.
Hi, we've just been to italy and hubbie has compensated cirrhosis with ascites as only symptom now (was decompensated so not able to travel then) we used stay sure and got a year cover no problems. Checked with our dr who said his 'compensated wont get better but you can live a normal life and most likely die from something else' so in answer to your question we put 'no' to terminal illness but did put cirrhosis on the form. Only decompensated is terminal which is why we couldn't and wouldn't of wanted to travel then. He wore airplane socks even though it was a short flight and had no problems at all.
Cirrhosis is NOT terminal and you tick no. There will be other questions about your health and when you type in cirrhosis a drop down box asks if you have varices.
If you tick yes another box asks if you have had banding or bleeds in the last 12 months.
Tick no and your accepted, tick yes they refuse you.
Be honest though.
With Saga the multi trip Europe 12 month policy was cheaper than most single trip! under £200!
Don't forget to get a European health card from NHS (it's free).
If your going to USA or on a cruise the insurance cost can be more than the holiday.
I’ve had the same challenges and I’ve found that if you try and book a single trip policy it can run into hundreds. However if you use confused or gocompare and opt for an annual trip then it’s so much cheaper. I was quoted £700+ for a single trip and I’ve just taken an annual trip for £27!
I declared all my pre existing medical conditions ie portal hypertension, Varicies, cholesterol and high BP (all managed and under control)
I used Travel Insurance 4 Medical and got a far better price for a single trip then any of the others and I ticked yes to Cirrhosis and varices, no bleeds in last 12 months.
