Hi everyone

I'm looking for advice on travel insurance .

I have non cirrhotic portal hypertension with varices and have been looking for quotes and they have been coming in between £360-£540 . Does this sound about right? If anybody out there has advise or could recommend any company's they have used I would be very grateful. Thanks

Thanks Katie

I've had a look and I was wondering if anyone has had any success with any of them.

That's really quite inexpensive for travel insurance.

Absolute nightmare and in my opinion a disgrace. Those that need a break away (possibly) more than others and we are priced out of it.

I was looking at travel insurance to America, granted I’ve got a number of issues, but I was getting quotes 10K+.

so agree, the one thing you need is a focus to look forward to and just cant afford it which makes me feel guilty cause I know its my fault

Please dont feel guilty your only punishing yourself . You can't change what's happened in the past. I have days when I feel angry and sorry for myself and I don't have half of the issues some people have but I'm determined to change the future and whatever that may bring . I hope your are as well as you can be and please don't feel guilty anymore .

Hi Septimus, If you are planning to go to the USA, Canada or the Carribean insurance is very expensive. I have compensated cirrhosis and tried for a single 2 week trip to Canada this year, and the cheapest was £1800, nearly twice the airfare cost, so I didnt go.

I am going to Crete in September with my EHIC card.

Wow £1800 that is disgraceful.

Hope you enjoy Crete in September.

I'm glad your getting away somewhere nice

HI Septimus, Yes, I'm looking forward to it. If we leave the EU and lose the EHIC card, I will holiday in the UK. The only trouble is my daughter lives in Seattle with 2 of my grandchildren......very sad.

I’ve just done a trip to the states. The best way I found to do it was to buy visitor health cover. (If you google it there are plenty of companies that offer it) This is specifically for medical only and costs a couple of hundred for pretty extensive cover including known conditions. You can then take out standard travel insurance, declare your illnesses but tell them not to cover you for them. That way you’ll get bog standard travel insurance at a cheap price to cover you for any travel problems, lost luggage etc and you’ll have your health insurance separately.

Worked for me.
