Anaesthesia with compensated cirrhosis

I'm due to have a hysteroscopy as a matter of some urgency. This procedure can be done with or without anaesthetic, but given the excruciating pain I suffered during a recent endometrial biopsy, I want to have an epidural anaesthetic for this next investigation. Does anyone have experience of epidural anaesthesia? Many thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi ! I had an epidural for both my caesarian sections .. loved it no problems. Have you discussed all your options fully with all the relevant specialists though ?

Sorry you are suffering with endometriosis ... my daughter too has it but will be waiting a long time for a laproscopy to confirm the severity and removal, it's in her bowel and ovaries. It's a very unknown, under recognised and under treated condition but l hope your hysterectomy will help you. I had mine 12 years ago due to fibroids and dermoid cysts... what freaky little things they are ! Take it easy and let us know how you get on.

Best wishes to you.

Thanks Laura. Having consulted my hepatologist, he has agreed that the hysteroscopy can go ahead with a spinal anaesthetic but NOT a general. I had an epidural anaesthetic a few years ago when I had a hip replacement. So, I'm going ahead! Will keep you posted,

Carole

How did your hip replacement go?

I had a hysteroscopy done under general anaesthetic a couple of years ago. I was in and out of hospital in about 6 hours.

I’ve had 4 or 5 epidurals (c section and liver surgeries) they are good for pain relief after major surgery but not sure if they are offered for something like a hysteroscopy.

Have they offered you general anaesthetic?

I definitely wouldn’t have it done while awake.

My hepatalogist has agreed to the anaesthetic being administered spinally. I had the same epidural procedure a few years ago when I had a hip op. It's evidently the safest way to administer anaesthetic for cirrhosis sufferers. Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.
