Probably due to sun damage and harmless but why not get them checked out. I once had blotches under my arm pits & my GP sent me off to a dermatology clinic. The dermatologist recognized what they were and what caused them immediately & told me how to get rid of them. They were gone within 2 weeks after I followed his advice despite being there for years.

I was told it was just due to me having liver problems

Red spots (petechia) can be caused by liver problems as well as other things but not brown ones.

In reply to Belleben, Yep I've got them exactly as you described. I was told they were a type of varicose vein. Nobody has ever seemed very concerned about them. The skin can get very dry and fragile so make sure you get a nice, kind moisturiser for them. Good luck.P.S. I think they're from liver damage but can't be sure. x

Good afternoon Belleben,

If you have any new, persistent or worsening symptoms it is important to seek medical guidance - your doctors will be able to offer diagnosis and treatment- or at the very least give you peace of mind.

Take care

Hi and thank you. I am thinking of making a appointment at royal free hospital I want to get second options on things to and have scan etc because of vivid my appointments have all been delayed. Or was wondering if you can recommend anywhere. Thanks Karen

Hello Karen,

I think the vast majority of people with liver disease have experienced some delay in tests/scans due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Often the best place to start when asking for second opinion is your own GP, as they can make the referral.

I have included a link to all the specialist liver centres in the UK which may be useul contacts for ongoing referral.

Would they do a referral or will I just have to book myself

Hello, Your GP can refer you for a second opinion, equally you can approach another doctor yourself.

I would suggest going via your GP in the first instance.

I went to the doctors with brown patches on my ankles that were very itchy. I would definitely get it checked out by your doctors, I was eventually diagnosed with cirrhosis.

All good thanks, get a bit tired bit apart from that life is great. Don't miss the drink at all and like the fact that can go anywhere last minute as I'm always sober. Don't get me wrong I've had some really shit times over the past 3 years, read my profile if you fancy but now and for the last 12 months I've been feeling great, pop a multitude of tablets every day one being anti depressants but that's now part of my new life. I am compensated and all bloods and scans are positive so fingers crossed I've a good few years in me

I had a little read and well done you 👋 I have no cravings for alcohol which is a good thing I did used to drink a lot but made me very ill. I haven't drunk since march 2019. All my blood results are now very good and my last scan which was last November showed good recovery I was due another scan in April but couldn't go due to covid so got to wait. I feel so much better now and have a clear head. I do miss the social side of drinking I must say it's difficult because its involved in everything you do, weddings, christenings, communions, birthdays, anniversarys Xmas, new year and even garden BBQs. I wished I had Been more sensible and could still join in these occasions but over the years I used alcohol to blot out a lot of things going on in life. Looking at my blotches right now and they have improved a lot. Thanks for replies take care.
