I am severely anaemic and have now got an appointment on Tuesday for an iron infusion, just wondering has anyone else on here had one??
Has anyone?? : I am severely anaemic and... - British Liver Trust
Has anyone??
I was severely anaemic a few years back, ended up having a blood transfusion, two units/bags of blood.
Hi JoJo I have had a couple of blood transfusions and a couple of iron transfusions when I first became ill. All were fine but you just have to sit around until they are finished, felt loads better after having them done x
I know there can be side effects but I never had any at all and like I said felt much better for it, I think this is a better option than iron tablets x
I’ve had a couple. No pain or side effects in any way.
Cheers,
Brett
I had it not long after being diagnosed with cirrhosis, I had two iron infusions, I literally felt like a new man, mine was so bad I had cravings to eat dirt or soil and later found out that this was a craving you get from severe anemia
Hey Jo, Ive had two so far. They look like bags of rusty water going into your veins. They will keep an eye on you (bp, hr etc) as it can cause a crazy effect if filtered into you too quick, but apart from that pretty straightforward. Although I had one and it took two hours and the last took 6 so regardless have a good book! lol. Good Luck - your feel great after! x
Aww thanks Michelle I am sick of people asking if I ok because I so pale lol I gathered it was an all dayer appointment letter said to arrive at 9 am and I could be there until 5 ... Least I will getting home ... Are you feeling any better?
I'm ok thank you, I don't feel great, I'm ridiculously emotional and tired. I feel sick, my spleen is too big and my tummy is covered in little green bruises. lol, apart from that I am tip top! I have good people around me that make me feel better and work is keeping me occupied. How are you? x
Oh dear it's a struggle just one day at a time only way to get through it I can only say it will get better once it's done but I know it also feels frustrating waiting for that call I truly just put it too the back of my head last few months I was too tired to give a shit lol .... And I ok just hope this iron does it's job and saves me from having a bone marrow biopsy and then hopefully get back to work I am so bored ..x
Oh you don't want a bone marrow biopsy - I have one every year and can safely say either my pain threshold is very low or I it's very painful! Either way I wouldn't wish it on anyone! I hate them! I don't have a choice about them to be honest, but eat lots of iron enriched food and fingers crossed for this infusion!! xx
I've had an iron infusion and did not have any problems. Felt immediately better. It did take a while, but a good book will take care of the boredom if necessary! Good luck
Thank you seems it works well
Hi. I had iron infusions ( venofer) once a month for about 6 months. They monitor you carefully during infusion . I had no side effects and each session took about an hour once everything was set up. Best of luck and hope it works x
I had 8 over two months. Now I get B 12 injections once a month.
Hi jojo, I'm new to the forum as I have recently been diagnosed with hep c. I have been following your posts and am very confused. I also suffer with anemia on and off and was told to stop taking iron supplements as they are bad for the liver. What is the difference between an infusion and supplements. Would that not have an effect on your liver.. As in negative.
Wish you luck with it, kind regards Kelly xx
Hi
I hope everything goes well and the infusion works, JoJo. Good luck to anyone having things done.
As most of you know I've got Nash with fibrosis, fibromyalgia, osteopenia which might turn into osteoporosis!! Git to have a dexa scan. Love and hugs to you all xxxx
