Your hair can thin with liver illness but severe anxiety or stress is also a cause of hair loss in women.

This from the NHS website :- Telogen effluvium

Telogen effluvium is a common type of alopecia where there is widespread thinning of the hair, rather than specific bald patches. Your hair may feel thinner, but you're unlikely to lose it all and your other body hair isn't usually affected.

Telogen effluvium can be caused by your body reacting to:

hormonal changes, such as those that take place when a woman is pregnant

intense emotional stress

intense physical stress, such as childbirth

a short-term illness, such as a severe infection or an operation

a long-term illness, such as cancer or liver disease

changes in your diet, such as crash dieting

some medications, such as anticoagulants (medicines that reduce the ability of your blood to clot) or beta-blockers (used to treat a number of conditions, such as high blood pressure)

In most cases of telogen effluvium, your hair will stop falling out and start to grow back within six months.

I bet this is all tied up with your current high levels of stress and anxiety whilst doctors try and get a grip on what is happening with your liver etc. Hopefully once you are under some sort of treatment regime you'll see an improvement in all aspects of your physical and mental health.

Katie :) x

hi marie i dont know if your hair is falling out or just getting thinner and thinner. in the last 18 months my hair has got thinner and thinner. i hadnt seen someone for a couple of years and they said i was getting very thin on top as thats what drew my attention to it. i was checking photo's of myself and i can see how much hair i'v lost. i dont remember seeing it falling out or in the drain after washing it just seems to be getting thinner. i have been quite ill for a long period of time and for over a year i couldnt eat even good fats as i had gallstones.i wasnt on meds either just pain killers. there are things you can buy now that make your hair grow. you need to have it checked to see if there is still life in the hair follicles. im 66 but i always had a good head of hair. now its thin on top and at the back. its so upsetting. i have tried shampoos called fibrology and one called alpecin but i felt that they did not do any good. love grace xoxoxo

Don't panic hunni it does happen it will just go thinner but you won't go bald believe me. It's just your liver isn't absorbing vitamins and minerals our bodies need to be healthy x

Hi Maria, as everyone has said it can be due to the liver.my hair is quite long; never stops growing but I can see I have lost the volume I used to have. As kate said you are stressed too and that is another possible reason why. I make sure I have paraben free shampoos on my hair. Don't go fretting you won't go bald ☺xx

Yes gorgeous mine comes out terrible I used to have such a thick hair now it's like thin and comes out loads. I have started to use Philip Kingsley elastizer, that has helped with my hair loss, hope this helps.

Your hair needs calcium and magnesium. They deplete with stress, anxiety, pregnancy, liver disease..there is a long list of good reasons why in particular women should take Ex-Cal. It is important for men too as I discovered when my aging husband got leg cramps. He and many others have benefitted!

Marie you poor girl. May I ask please how bad it is?

Hiya, yep I am losing hair and historically I have lost it too following a binge or high stress, I am female, and equally my acupuncturist years ago said our hair is one of the last parts to be affected by such things so if it is months afterwards don't be surprised.

OMG, YES!! my hair is falling out as well, so much so my coworkers noticed. I started taking a prenatal vitamin and it seems to help a bit. Keep in mind we lose up to 100 hairs a day but it looks and feels like so much more!

Mine always has fallen out quite a lot but it's got to ridiculous amounts. My partner lost all of his hair to alopecia and his nails started to go as well. They gave him some tonic which failed to get his hair back but stopped his nails from disintegrating. I put some on my hair and it is definitely better. What is it you ask?... all we can see on the bottle is dermovate and GLAXO. I've ordered something on line but it said it was for skin complaints. Now that I know that it is part and parcel of the poorly liver, I might mention it to the doctor when I'm next there. Still, I shall let you know if my on line purchase works. Fingers crossed.
