Hey Everyone. In all the time we spend together here, I have realized that there is so much we dont know about each other. I wanted to share a bit about me. Some know I have been a musician my whole life. I taught, I toured, I wrote, I produced, I played my heart out. Sometimes I hear a song that I just will never get tired of. One where when it's on, I just drift to a better place. The room disappears and I'm an empty body in a room with my soul on a different plane. This song here is one with lyrics that are simply written but yet are so powerful in the way we can relate them to our own lives. The life before disease. The life with it. The life after it. The beauty of youth and its infinite possibilities. Sometimes I feel moments of that come across me like a wave of strength and hope. I am reminded that this disease is just apart of us. It isnt us in entirety. That we were once young and in love and full of life. A state of mind and a feeling that I do everything I can everyday to feel a piece of. That feeling is the drug I chase. The drink of life I need to keep going. I will never stop dreaming and taking every ounce of that drug I can get. To feel that happy in me. To feel that young minded young souled bliss. To recirculate that Young Blood. We are never to late for happiness. I share with you a piece of mine with this song. One of my all time favorites by a fantastic and incredibly talented musician. Gorgeous. My daughter in law has a beautiful voice and teaches singing and drama. She just starts singing around the house or in the car, it lifts your heart.
I've got a full size and 3/4 both over 100 year old with lovely tone. My son played until he was about 12 and then packed in, He was very good too. Such a shame! His mates didn't consider it a cool instrument to play so he gave in to peer pressure. He plays guitar now though so he still has music in his life.
Oo that just sounds like heaven. Amazing isnt it Alfred? Once we have had music take us over, have it run through our veins, we crave it for life. An addiction that never subsides. It doesnt matter how sick we get or how hard times are. The thought of it just brings the will to live to the surface! So many times I've been so down and out in my life and when I'm up on that stage it just melted away and the need for a drink or a smoke subsides, the fear of anything at all just is gone and it's like all that matters is you your instrument and the universe your creating with it around you. Oh man!
Yes, you can enter your own world and for that time nothing else has any importance. An exquisite escape for the mind. While I was on chemo I couldn't play any of my instruments because of cramp in the hands. When the cramp ceased after transplant I couldn't play because my hands shook with taking steroids but I could always stick my headphones on and drift whilst listening to music. |I can play again now but in short sessions until I build up my muscular strength but I'm getting there.

I'd like to learn to play too! Have you listened to David Garrett play the violin! A must watch is Viva La Vida, or Dangerous , Kashmir Stairway to Heaven, November Rain plus many more! He's totally and utterly amazing to watch on You Tube! I adore him more than life! Hope you can feel his passion for music too! He's on my bucket list to see live!

Hi Millip. We could form a duo. Poor wife complains of all the instruments that she has to dust now. When I mention a double base she just sort of rolls her eyes, lol

PS I was joking about recorder. I was the only one in our form year that wasn’t allowed to join the house choir. I have always been proud of that 😁. Yes I know it’s sad lol.
You could play the Jew's harp Milo. Remember that? The tissue paper and comb. Did you put the bit about being excluded from the house choir on your C.V. to impress future employers? lol
Even with Jew’s harp - never heard it called that - you surely have to have the rudimentary ability to know what sound (i nearly said note) you’re trying to make - No way Hose (eacute - I think?)
Love the artist and her songs, you are very lucky to have done what you have done, unfortunately I had a really bad childhood which did serious damage to my self esteem. All I wanted to do was perform but was constantly put down by one person despite being told by others I had something. As a result of my scare, I have gone back to it and am writing songs and recording at home, realistically I know I probably won’t get anywhere now but if you don’t try...! Thanks for sharing!!

Ha Ha Phoenix! No wonder a lot of us drunks and X drinkers have so much in common. I was in a hair metal band in the 80s in Hollywood and Southern Cal. Played for 20 years. I traded in my Tele, because the Les Paul has a broader range ( still my favourite}. When my neighbours and wife are out I let rip, when my hands are up to it.😁
Les Paul's were made for loud volumes! I hear you on the hands. One summer after a show we were back at my place having some drinks and I fell asleep on chair sittimg up with my head leaning on my fist. When I woke up my hands were pins and needles. I waited a few minutes for it to go away but it didnt. It ended up being what was called " Saturday night palsy" . I couldnt move it at all for 3 months. I had to play shows with cleverly devised system of medical tape and strings on my hand. I had to simplify everyrhing down. Break chords apart into arpeggios because I couldnt grip a chord all at once. I finally got feeling back in it and can play now. But it's never been quite the same. It was a nightmare, thought my days for playing were over.
Black Sabbath's lead Tony Iommi, had two fingertips chopped after an accident in a sheet metal factory, and had to switch to lefty ( like me), 'cause he had no feeling in his right hand to play his monster riffs. My problem is just old age😢
That story goes a little bit further too. As you know alot of metal bands now down tune their guitars . This began as a result of Tony Iommi having to down tune to accommodate the string tension on his injured fingers. The result was a lower note availability which in metal we know equals more of the heavy chunk.
I love tuning acoustics down to a low B tuning. Or an open C minor. Gives the acoustic a real grand piano range and timbre. Especially in minor keys. The result can be quite haunting. 🙂
The change in string tension can really help in delaying the hand fatigue as well I find.
My first gitbox was a spanish acoustic, bought from Jim Marshalls in Feltham. I restrung it for a lefty, and tuned it down to save my fingertips when a newbie player. It did give a bit of fret slap, but for a £16 gitbox, it was OK and all I could afford.In later years, on my weekly visits to Jim's, I used to almost cry to see the damage on Pete Townsend's Rickenbacker after his gigs. Jim used to repair it for him. Those were the days I miss like crazy, but at least I have the memories😎

Thanks so much Trish! The way it can teleport us instantly to any place or emotion. Sometimes a song come.on and all of a sudden I actually even physically feel the way I did when that song was first on and I heard it. The other day a song came on and all.of a sudden I was sad about losing my high school gf. Lol just felt like i was back in that moment.

As I write this note my ears are plugged into my iPad and I'm listening to all sorts of music from Ed Sheeran Perfect Symphony to Christine Perri singing a Thousand Years which melts me away!

A thousand years was such a well written song. Beautiful melody. I have a version of it that we performed of it in my last band live when we were playing at the Hard Rock cafe in Toronto. Our singer had almost a Bono meets operatic flavour on it. I'll have to see if I can find it for you it was truly chilling!

This song helped me through the darkest nights of my entire life 😍 I used to get moaned at in hospital for singing because it made me forget where I was and I still need it every now and again and it will be my song at my funeral or I will haunt them all 😂😂

Oh wow this Dax Riggs video brings back memories. Long road trip to classy Pontiac Michigan. Stopped at the border on the way in to the US because one of our friends thought emptying the tin that held her roaches was enough to get rid of the smell so the border dogs wouldnt sniff it out. WRONG lol. The one dollar Coronas at the bar he was playing at made up for the rundown motel room with the "love stained" carpets. What a memory though lol. Good times!
What! You know of Dax? It’s so hard to find people who know his music! I’ve seen him play live 3 times, once in KCMO, once in St Louis, and the first time in Columbia MO. Amazing person, super sweet and cool and fun to hang with.
We have also had issues with roaches and the border hahaha makes for good memories but sucks at the time!
Acid Bath is how I first discovered Dax years ago, thanks to an ex boyfriend (only good thing I got from that relationship haha) it’s so cool to meet someone who knows of Dax! Especially in Canada!
Yea good times. The first time we saw him he got drunk in our hotel room and passed out on one of the beds. Accidental sleepover haha

Yes my husband is now free to fly to the UK for his business at the end of May and I'll be going with him. Fingers crossed no more bleeds. He has 6 months before he needs to be checked again. He's still a little more tired and achy then he used to be but some of that may not be liver that may be age (65) and being a bit too sedentary.
You might be quite right. I was quite sedentary over the winter and feeling down alot. Even at 35 It really took a number on my health and energy. I hope you botj the very best xx
