It is unlikely that anyone over here in the UK would know much about this as this is an American clinical trial with very little information to go on. Even if it was successful and was approved for use in the states, it may take a further five years before it became licensed to be used over here in the UK.
Hi, it is currently prescribed in the UK by the NHS for PBC and there are some exciting trials around its wider use for Nash. I'm afraid I've only read the pages from our NICE guidelines but wish you the best of luck and hopefully other members will have direct experience. Chris
Hi Kay,
We live in the US, but haven't heard of this drug and my husband's cirrhosis is alcohol related.
If you are starting a clinical trial the coordinators should be giving you information on the drug you might be taking.
Best wishes,
Mary
Hi Kay,
Just thought I would add to my answer.
We saw hubby's VA doctor today and his response was the drug is more often used to conteract tylenol overdose and would not probably help in my husband's case - though you have a different diagnosis and so they may be trying to see if it would help those with NASH.
Best wishes,
Mary
Yes, the clinical trial is for early NASH cirrhosis. I am hopeful with what I have been told and read about this drug. This will be the third clinical trial before going to the FDA for approval. It’s a 2 year clinical trial. I haven’t got in yet. I have to have tests to make sure I qualify. My blood work passed. Next is EGD and ultrasound. If those are acceptable then I move on to liver biopsy. If that shows it’s early cirrhosis then I go to the clinical trial. Scared of having the liver biopsy, never had that before.
