Hi there
Can anyone tell me if they get results from blood tests straight away, or do you have to call back for results. My husband goes and gets bloods done, but never comes back with any information. Also, what are they testing for?

Hi Yuiop
When blood tests are taken they are then sent away to be tested at a laboratory. This can be done on an urgent basis or often, as a routine test which can take up to two weeks.
No one on the forum can be sure what blood tests your husband has had, he can obtain this information from his own doctors.
If your husband has had blood taken he will usually be given an appointment time to get his results. All results should always be discussed with his own doctor or specialist nurse to ensure they are interpreted correctly.
You may find out publication 'Liver disease tests explained' useful to read, we are in the process of updating this publication but there is still useful information in it that may be helpful;

Thank you for your reply, he had blood done yesterday at hospital clinic, and got a call today to half his water pills. Low sodium..123. And renal not good. I've to contact them immediately if there is any change in him. Also to weigh him daily and go back in 2 weeks.
I have regular bloods taken. My experience has been that I will get a call, usually the next day, if I have to change my prescription or alter my diet. If my bloods are okay then I have to call myself to ask for details. There are certain things that I like to monitor.
You can get a copy of the blood test results from the hospital (orfrom the GP surgery if they were done there. If your hubby has online access to medical records. Some blood tests will be recorded there. It is always good to keep an eye on test results so that you can be better informed.
