Hida scan

How are you all? My liver nurse has been in touch. My bloods showed definite inflammatory markers, she thinks it's either lesions when I had my gall bladder out 32 years ago or sphincter of Oddi so I've got to have a hida scan . Thank you for all your support xxxx

Hi Lynne, I had a full abdomen CT scan with contrast, so it might have been a Hida scan, although it was not given that name. Anyway, best of luck and I will say a prayer for you and a positive result.

Hida scan is similar to CT scan in terms of setup, IV line for scan medium, except it uses a radioactive dye to track bile flow etc. I had one, be prepared as I had multiple scans through the day, first one was nearly an hour then I had to come back every hour or so to have shorter scans, for one scan I had to eat something fatty, but they will tell you in the day. You aren't allowed to use the toilet in the department as it makes it radioactive!!
