Hey all

I am a military veteran and retired 4 years ago with 33 years of service. And, lived the lifestyle of a drunken sailor. I am a very light smoker, maybe 10 cigarettes a month with no other vices. I have a history of moderate fatty liver, mild psoriasis, mild arthritis, cholesterol, and elevated enzymes.

I have no symptoms. I recently told myself that I cannot maintain such a life style at 53 and became pro active, and finally found a family doctor after 4 years, and gave her all my last military medical records. And stared from scratch.

.Hep ABC:Negative

.Fatty Liver:Mild with no lesions.

.Alp:117

.Ast:59

.Alt:54

.GGT:627

.Bilirubine16

.Albumine46

.Platelets :145

.Creatinine:73

.Ferritine:333

. BMI: 35

.Blood Pressure:Mild

.Diabetes:Negative

I had done an Ultrasound two months ago which found no abnormalities with my Bile Ducks, Gall Bladder, Spleen, pancreas, and Kidneys…

I am currently panicking since my Fribroscan last week with a result of 22 Kpa. (I know that there are different result scales for different conditions which I posted a link below.) I am waiting to see my Gastroenterologist hopefully some time soon. Yet, I am now panicking? I was expecting some fibrosis and was ready for a lifestyle change. I just need a little boost of motivation, yet never expected possible Cirrhosis? Its not 100% confirmed yet as I am still waiting for my Doctors Appointment.

I ve been taking a Multi Vit, C&E, Milk Title, Garlic, Aspirin ALA, Turmeric and my 2-4 cups of coffee. My Diet is average I added more fish and vegetables to my diet for a while now. My diet never lacked garlic, onion, and peppers… I do not have a sweet tooth.

After some extensive research cause by panic, I heard that fibroscans has some inaccuracies with the old machines. I believe I was diagnosed with and older models as they did not provide me with CAP results which the older models do not provide.

Since my Friboscan I have totally abstained from alcohol. I found it relatively easy thus far with the Grim Reaper staring down upon me.

I cannot believe I may be diagnosed with Cirrohsis? Makes no sense. Fibrosis sure, Cirrohsis? I was always somewhat pro active concerning my medical history.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum, we hope you find it a supportive place to visit.

Regarding posting your test results;

Differences in normal range for different laboratories can make it difficult to compare or comment on individual test results specifically. This is due to the different brand of tests that are used and how these are interpreted. This may also be especially significant if you are not in the UK.

This forum is here to share experiences and provide support to each other and we would advise against posting any test results or asking for specific medical advice. This is not a medical forum and should not be used to try and make diagnoses or replace advice from your own medical practitioners who have a much wider view of your health and test results.

We appreciate how worried you are and hope you can still post with regards to support and information but it is against the rules of our forum to post test results and to ask for specific medical advice,

You may find The British Liver Trust publication on liver disease tests explained useful to read;

britishlivertrust.org.uk/wp...

However, it really would be best to discuss your test results with your own doctors who know you best. If you recieve a diagnosis and would like some more specific information then we have many publications on our website that may help.

With regards to your use of milk thistle and complementary and alternative medicines, The British Liver Trust does not recommend the use of any homeopathic or herbal remedies for those with any liver problems as these have to be processed by the liver and can actually damage the liver and lead to severe illness.

More research needs to be done on the use and safety of such remedies and therapies.

Homeopathic remedies are unregulated in the UK and concentrations of active ingredients vary by brand purchased. If you are considering using complementary or alternative remedies &/or therapies please always discuss this with your liver doctor first. Please see here for our website page on complementary medicines and milk thistle;

The most important part is to remain. abstinent. Forget about booze. Forever. You will lose a lot of weight. You will feel so much better.

FS is not supposed to be done with active drinkers, anyway.

Good luck,

P.

Hi

I can't comment on your results as mine are obviously based on a different scale as my results fall way beyond the numbers given.

One problem many members of this forum share is being treated like mushrooms by their doctors - kept in the dark and fed bull ****.

Only your doctor can answer your questions. I just wanted you to see that we have all felt lost and confused at times.

As you will see from many posts, people live a good long active life with cirrhosis, so take a few deep breaths, if it was really worrying, you'd have been in very quickly! Like others have said, you've taken good strides to help your liver function, stay with your current decisions and you will be fine. Best of luck

Hi phil64

Welcome to the clan. I have nafld (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and some cirrhosis. I haven't drank alcohol in 36 years or thereabouts. Not because I'm a saint, it just didn't agree with me following my first pregnancy. I was diagnosed in August. I knew I had cholesterol issues but couldn't get on with statins.

I am still finding my way around information. The sound advice everyone gives on here is as follows:

1. Get medical advice from your g.p or specialist about what your readings mean.

2. Eat healthily. If you do some work on the NHS web site you can find a lot of useful information about nutrition and portion sizes and reasonable calorie intake if you are under or overweight using their him indicator. If you are the right healthy weight it is worth messing about with your entry as the under and over weights give some useful information I couldn't get when trying to show someone who sees weight was in the healthy range. There is also advice about fruit drinks.

3. Exercise. If you have physical restrictions speak to your G.P. to see what advice or referral they can do to help you exercise healthily.

4. Give up the alcohol. It isn't worth it.

5. Watch the health additives. They may be difficult for the liver to digest. Check with your doctor and consultant. A healthy diet, getting enough sunshine when you are out walking should cut out the need for most of these. I am now only on omega 3,6,9 some people need vitamin d addition. My consultant knows what I take, but even then I should really eat more oily fish like salmon, or the right nuts and fruit instead of the supplements. If you need additional vitamins and minerals get the specialist, dieticians or G.P's to advise you.

I would also add into these

6. Find groups to get involved with. Support groups can be very useful. But also if you get a chance so is volunteer work and just meeting people. Healthy feel good factors can really help our mind and body. Sometimes it is necessary to cope with what we have to cope with.

7. Rest is important as is as healthy a sleep pattern as you can manage.

8. Try and get the family on board about healthy eating and exercise it makes it less difficult if someone is doing it with you.

No I didn't get it right before otherwise I wouldn't be in this position. But I am trying to get it right now.

Good luck.

Gx
