Can someone please advise me what NSAIDS they take for toothache, headache etc? I haven't needed any since I was diagnosed a couple of months ago but now I need something for neuralgia. Many thanks.

I have PBC/AIH overlap syndrome and was told I could still take paracetamol, just half the recommended daily dosage! X

Hi, I take morphine liquid and tablets and pregablin for nerve ending pain. Sounds a bit extreme but my pain is severe

Best wishes, Julie

Oh Jules, that IS a lot of jollop! My pain is nothing compared to yours obviously. Is your pain liver related or due to another condition? I'm new to all this - have loads of questions and can never get to see my GP. Thank God for this site.

Take care. x

Hi again, thanks for message. I do get liver and ßpleen pain but osteoporosis and arthritis as well. Been told firmly to stay away from ibuprofen and paracetemal and codeine makes me sick, hope you get a suitable pain killer.

Hi Julie - thanks for your advice. It would be great if only I could get to see my GP! I think it's possible I've got osteoporosis too - my previous GP recommended a bone density scan. Now I ache all over, but it might just be a symptom of the cirrhosis.

Very best wishes

Carole xx

Hi Carole,

No one on the forum can accurately or safely advise you what medication to take.

Your liver processes all the medicines and drugs that come into your body.

Medicines that are normally safe can be dangerous to someone with

liver problems because the liver is not able to cope.

Always check with your liver specialist and the pharmacist whether a medicine is safe for you.

Best wishes,

Team BLT

Many thanks. The neuralgia has gone now but I will speak to the pharmacist for advice for the future. It's interesting that in the 5 months since I stopped drinking this is the first time I've needed a painkiller.

You are welcome Carole,

Don't forget to check your medications in the future with your liver specialist as well,

Best wishes,
