Travel: My husband has cirrhosis and I... - British Liver Trust
Travel
As it is now Christmas Eve and a weekend there is probably no one at the British Liver Trust but if you give them an email or phone (after the holiday) they can provide a full list of travel insurers who will insure travellers with liver conditions. Email the team at helpline@britishlivertrust.org.uk or call the helpline on 0800 652 7330 (10am-3pm).
Whilst I am sure your hubby will benefit from some warmth and sunshine there are a few additional considerations as regards foreign travel and cirrhosis.
With regards to flying your husband will need an endscopy before flying to ensure there is no risk of a variceal bleed (flying can lead to additional pressure and any varices need to be dealt with first), necessary additional vacinations to prevent any illness PLUS the need to drink only bottled water abroad due to infection risk - some bottled water contains loads of sodium which can lead to ascites. We had a lovely lady on here a few years ago, hubby had undiagnosed ascites prior to going off on a foreign holiday. Whilst abroad he drank only bottled water and all of a sudden he developed a massive ascites, was hopsitalised abroad and then multiple organ failure and never returned home.
Definitely discuss with your husband's consultant before booking and travelling.
All the best & despite that gloomy note ............ have a lovely Christmas.

I have polycystic liver disease and I use Coverwise. I think it was around £250 for an annual worldwide cover.
Merry Christmas.

I got cover with a company called Voyager, hope you manage it. I travel on cruises now to avoid flying. X
