Hi positive

It would be great if you could make a holiday. I am perhaps the wrong person to say anything because my holiday experience was disastrous! For our 40th anniversary we were going on a wonderful 21 day cruise. First night I had a horrible horrible HE episode 😕. Two days later I became almost, well almost, compos mentis having apparently refused to see the ship’s doctor when I was in middle of all this. Wife got me off the ship at the first port of call which was, incredibly lucky for us, in Scotland!

Train home. Got off the train with someone else’s case which wife managed to get it back on just in time - held up train a mo or two 😕. Got to doctors back home and of course ended up in Hospital.

Then the incredibly difficult task of getting some insurance payout - having done that thing you are just not allowed to - get off a ship without seeing the doctor! Two doctors letter later we managed to get something back but it is definitely something I wouldn’t want to repeat 👎.

So beware and if you do travel make sure you have good insurance and have declared absolutely everything - but I guess you know all this with all your previous travelling with your unwell son! 😕.

My experience was because my HE wasn’t under control!!

Good luck!

Miles

Hi Positive,

I had a week in Crete in September last year. I had the EHIC card which gave a bit of security, but my capsule pain made it a bit of a trial, I was so glad to get home.

I'm undecided whether to risk it again this year, and probably won't unless I can get pain relief. I have IBS, and my son and daughter have ulcerative colitis, and a friend has Crohn's , so I'm well aware of your problems with holidays and travel.

I took all my medication with me to be safe, but it only eases the symptoms.

I'm sorry I can't write a more positive reply.

Hi david

It is positive that you could go as I envisaged never flying again. And you get the gastro issues we already account for with our son but we have managed with him except a couple mid years then it was center parcs. We made Florida even when he was quite poorly but a big deal doing that and hard. Spent last three years in same hotel in gran canaria which fab and hope to return one day.

Hope your pain eases

Karen

Positive 3yrs? in the same Hotel lol. GC love it. I only managed 2 weeks in Oct. Although I was diagnosed with cirrhosis in June I've had no acute symptoms to-date. I still sought approval from my Consultant all the same. Manana, manana. 🌞

I advise you not to leave travel, but use all available ways and means for this, relax, but always know, and have everything you need at your fingertips and do not go where you cannot deal with problems. I advise a very high-quality and good car rental service bookingauto.com, which perfectly allows you to rent a car in almost any country, in different cities, for fairly little money. This is especially true for travel, it is extremely convenient! Many take advantage of this and always come again.

We've not let our sons condition stop us travelling but we do so prepared and cautiously. We wouldn't be heading to certain places with him so I do feel ahead of the game in terms of needing to plan and be prepared etc. Just half to know there may be a time when we can fly again!

Hi Karen,

Once hubby is more stable, discuss any travel plans with the consultant to ensure he is medically safe to travel.
