My husband has decompensated alcohol related liver disease with ascites, abstinent for 7 months. We would like to get to Germany to see his family for a month in our motorhome and wondered if a) anyone has travelled abroad with this condition and b) if anyone has experience of the insurance companies listed on the BLT site, or others. On the comparison website, the Post Office had the best price which surprised me as previously they wouldn't do medical conditions. Any advice gratefully received.

Hi, we used staysure, I think it's on the BLT site. They seemed ok and the years policy was good value. I looked on comparison websites but went directly to them and got a better deal. You can also update policy online if symptoms improve. We didnt need to use it, thankfully and we only travelled in Europe.

Make sure you get a GHIC for traveling in Europe - it replaces the old/pre-Brexit E111 form which gets you medical care in Europe - if needed. gov.uk/government/news/uk-l...

Enjoy your hols.

I was in a similar situation and the insurance quotes cost nearly as much as the holiday as the holiday I was going on. I eventually cancelled the holiday as it just wasn’t worth it.

Might be worth checking with your husband’s doctor before travelling if you haven’t already.

Hello,

I posted on here a short while ago, as I was looking for insurance for my husband.

I really struggled to fine anyone to provide cover - he has decompensated cirrhosis, jaundice, no bleeds but has small varicies. He’s had a TIA at some point late last year, and is now type 2 diabetic- linked to his liver issues.

I have had quotes from all clear and insure and go. I’ve gone with the later as they would supply cancellation cover. We obviously aren’t flying, it’s a weeks cruise, to Norway, just over £730 for the week. It’s a lot, as much as the holiday, but we decided it was important for us to do this.

I hope you’re able to get cover and visit.

Take care

Thank you. I will give them a go. I hope you have a lovely time. I think it is so important to have something to look forward to. I know it perked my husband up no end just getting in our motorhome for a week.
