6 weeks away from 10k/10miles? A new start line…

Morning all! I’ve been quiet recently because life has been crazy busy and I’ve had a stinker of a cold. I’m getting toward the point of running again and I have some shiny new trainers to break in, so I’m thinking about what to do.

I’ve got a 10k event coming up on April 7th and I’m determined to be on that start line. I definitely won’t be in shape to run it all by then so the focus for that event will be getting round and getting my bling! Coming up on April 27th is the HU Virtual Spring Event with various distances on offer. I’m going to treat that as my main event and see where I can get to. 6 weeks is a very decent amount of time to get myself back to 10k. If training goes well, I’ve got a lovely 10 mile route nearby but that requires a lot of things to fall into place. For now, I’m focussing on getting the trainers on and getting going again!

Is anyone else fancy joining me on the virtual start line? If you’re not far from 10k, having a date could be a nice little motivator. 10 miles is a lovely next step from 10k if you fancy it and are near 10k. 6 weeks gives you time to add 1k to your long run each week and you’ll hit 10 miles by April 27th. Tempted?

I’ve stalled somewhere around W5-6…my mojo has been fooling around with me…I’m even finding it hard to get up my allotment 👩🏻‍🌾

Mixing up the plans is not working now longer distances are kicking in, it took me nearly an hour to run my first 5k for nearly a year! I’ve no problem being a snail 🐌 but it just takes so much time! ☹️

I had vaguely planned to do the 26 minute hill starts this morning…but I was really stiff today and just thought…meh

So, I don’t want to be a Debbie downer, and I hope everyone else is on track…if 5k is one of the distances available I will go for that.

You can be a Debbie downer all you need to. It’s tough and we get demoralised. That’s what the board is here for! Hopefully some sunshine and some daffs brings the mojo out of hiding.

Running a first 5k in over a year sounds like a big cause for celebration to me!

very tempted! I’ll look out for the post. My longest run to far is 13.5k and I’m slowly working towards HM, so 10 miles is my next target 😊

Thank you! I’m still coughing and wheezing so the start line is a little further off than planned. Trying not to feel frustrated. I’ll get there!

Hope you're completely better and can get those trainers on.....I'm hoping for the 10k I'm slow but comfortable at 5k now so can add 1,k a week to my longish run

Thank you! The cough continues and I’ve got all sorts of rumblings in my chest. Hopefully I’m past the peak. For now, at least I can have a few nice walks in the sunshine. You’ve done brilliantly to get back to 5k. Good luck with the build!

So glad you're over the cold. You've had such rotten luck with bugs recently. Glad you'll be with us all on 27th, and for giving it a mention. I'll be posting midweek from now on, with updates and a few more details. I'll make sure to put a link post over here on Bridge so everyone gets a chance to join in. We'd love to see some new faces, meet some new folk.

Thank you! Unfortunately I’ve gone all chesty so there’s a bit more recovering to do. It’s been one thing after another lately. Ah well-maybe this is the peak of it and the runs will be back soon.

I've ended up not following any particular plan, but just trying to do a bit more each week. This morning I managed 7.3k so I think I'm on track for 10k by end of April. Real biting wind this morning, glad I had some layers on. But forecast is for warm weather later in the week ☀️

Sometimes that sort of build is the best way to go! The weather certainly is a challenge at the moment. I never seem to be properly dressed-either too hot or too cold!! Layers are definitely the way to go. Have a lovely run in the sunshine!

uff, I’m tempted but know better. I’m even slower than the most slowest of fabulous snail runners on here, and I need to build up very slowly.

So I will take inspiration from your journey and will slowly build up to 10k again this year, but my goal is probably 7 k by the time you get to 10k.
