Hi everyone, I wasn’t sure where to post this but I’m sure you’ll understand!😊 As some of may remember, my left leg seized up when I was doing the virtual London Marathon 6 weeks ago, when I’d got to 14.5 miles.
To cut a long story short, I’ve been on crutches or using mum’s walking frame 😖 every time I’ve ventured out since then, although I’ve been shuffling around the house unaided for a few days. I walked to the local shop (about half a mile journey) this afternoon without any aids at all. It felt great and I’m very pleased with it.👍
I’ll obviously continue with the exercises my physio has given me until I meet him again in 10 days, then hopefully I’ll have a better idea when I might be able to run again. Given the length of time I’ll have been on the injury couch, I’ll most likely have to start C25K again. I’ll need to get a proper gait analysis done too and almost certainly new running shoes😀
Hopefully things are looking up finally, now I just have to guard against getting overconfident 😒

Wow, what a thing to happen. Sending masses of sympathy and masses of good luck for your return from the injury couch. Got the virtual on poms ready to cheer you on.
Just a friendly reminder that pictures of new running shoes are compulsory… 😉
Thanks MissUnderstanding the new shoes will definitely be shown on here when I get them! Hopefully it’ll be in time for Santa to give them to me for Christmas😊 🎄🎁🤞
Glad to hear it! I’m currently helping Father Christmas with a wish list. I’ve never been short of gift ideas for people wanting to buy for me since I started running. 😆
I’m with you on that MissUnderstanding even no-one who’s giving me a present knows what I’m asking for. I normally have to give them a link to it, otherwise I might get something entirely different!🤣 They also don’t even to understand why I’m excited about a massage gun, resistance bands, foam rollers etc. 😂
It’s one of the things I’m so grateful to this forum for! Fellow run geeks who love to talk about all that stuff!!! It’s probably saved my marriage. MrUnderstanding can manage up to a point but there’s a time when you need your run buddies!
That’s great news you got to the shop without help! I bet it felt really good. And it’s lovely out today. I hope your physio appointment goes well - you are getting 💪🏽 stronger day by day 😁.
I remember that happening to you and felt it was really bad luck, I didn't realise it was taking so long to recover though, good to hear you are getting there and have my fingers crossed that you will soon be running again
Having been following the saga on Strava I'm absolutely delighted that things - notably your legs - are finally moving in the right direction David_G .
Sending you oodles of Bon courage for restarting running when you can. 😊
Good news my friend...you are moving forward. Hopefully the physio might be able to give you some idea of what's happening Noo shoos...just great...that's a reason to stay positive!
Glad to hear that you’ve been able to get out without your crutches David, it must be awful to be so restricted when you just want to get out and run. Take it slowly and I’m sure you’ll be back out there again in new bouncy supportive shoes 👟 👟
Hi Sandraj39 apparently the muscles in my leg (particularly the quads) stopped working with each other properly, all caused by over-pronation😳 I never knew I did over-probate as I’ve never had a gait analysis done. I’ll never buy shoes again without it and I’ve got exercises I can do every day to help strengthen the relevant areas and reduce the problem 👍
Glad to hear things are slowly improving David! Keep on with the exercises and, as you say, watch out for that over confidence - we’ll all be watching to make sure you don’t do too much too quickly!
Glad to hear you are on the mend. Sorry but I had to have a little giggle about you walking with your mom’s walking frame 😂. Wishing you a speedy recovery 🏃🏾
sorry to hear you’re suffering David! 😟. I hope the physio can sort things out for you. Have you torn something?Hopefully not, and it’s a pull or something less serious. Fingers crossed for you 🤞
thanks misswobble I think I’ve just strained things and I’m well on the mend now. I’ve just come back from a 2.72 km (according to Strava) walk, which went well. There’s a pub en route that I was sorely tempted to visit, but resisted the temptation 🍺😊
Hello David, Really pleased that there has been some improvement. I've used crutches twice now, once for a fractured pelvis and once for a broken knee. They are great in that they made me mobile, but here's to your further progress without them. You have certainly had to be patient. Well done to you.
