So, I was doing the 35 min ‘graduate’ run from the Cto5K app. I had just completed 5k and was trying for a bust of speed for the last couple of minutes when suddenly I had a really bad pain that shot from the joint between my hip and femur (on the right hand side) and came out of the top of my hip where the hip bone touches my skin. I rested it for a couple,of weeks and then tried to do ParkRun. After about 1K it happend again and I limped the rest of the way round. Haven’t run since but it still hurts, especially going up stairs. Any ideas anyone?

Hip pain

Do you do any stretching or strengthening exercises (I love yoga with Adriene). I would say try some gentle stretching of the hips, as long as it doesnt exacerbate the pain, but continue with a break from running. If after a couple of weeks you're feeling OK, you could try an easy run.
Also how long have you been running? If you've not long finished C25k it might be worth keeping all your runs at a conversational pace, as introducing speed work too soon could increase the chance of injuries.

Sudden onset and sharp pain can indicate an injury - and if it is still bothering you after 2 weeks, a trip to the physio might be beckoning (if money allows?)
Not only will they be able to diagnose properly but they can help set you up with a good rehab programme to help you recover and feel stronger. Good luck!🙂

Injuries and illness are a nightmare. May be worth a trip to the GP - they may be able to refer you to a physio to save on costs.
I phoned the GP the Monday after the ParkRun. Their response was that someone would phone me back in eight days time (yes that is correct). Waited for the phone call and when it came it was from a physiotherapist. Told them what had happened and they booked me in for a face to face appointment in a weeks time - more than three weeks after the first contact with them. Interestingly my dog injured his leg chasing a ball a couple of years ago - he got a same day vet appointment.
Sadly, your dog's speedier treatment is a reflection of the difference between paying privately and going with the NHS. When my knee problems first started (before I ran) my GP advised me to see a physio privately if I could afford it as it would be much quicker.
Having said which a lot of running problems will sort themselves out if you stop running and take it easy. If things are still bad after, in your case, 3 weeks you definitely need medical advice. The good news is that physios are magicians and if you follow their advice you're likely to make a speedy recovery.
Painkillers can help. I used to think they were only for headaches and stomach cramps but they work on legs too

My advice, at this stage would be to just go and get expert advice... at least then you will have a starting point.
We can do everything by the book, rest and be sensible, but then heading out again find the issues are still there..
The expert advice either through your GP or a Sport's Physio' will tell you exactly what is going on.
