A Spanish run today

Thought I’d try a gentle 20min run today to ease me back after 2 weeks of a horrible cold. After reading about favourite NRC runs I thought I’d give the app another go, even though I didn’t take to Coach Bennet when I’ve tried him before. I find the NRC app really difficult to navigate so I had trouble finding a suitable run. Why is there no search function or am I just not finding it?

eventually I found what looked like a gentle 20min guided run and set it up. By the time I’d left the house it had disappeared and I had to look for it all over again. Getting a bit ratted now! At last I hit the start button and a stream of rapid Spanish emits. No choice but to laugh! Frustratingly I can find no way to switch it to English, no settings button.

It was very rapid Spanish but even slow Spanish would be incomprehensible to me so I switch it off and resign myself to an unguided run with some lovely Debussy to help me along.

First 10mins felt tough but slowed it up and by the end of 20mins I felt I could have gone on but didn’t as I want to build back gently.

Happy running and any advice about NRC gratefully received

Are you in Spain at the moment   Rabbit561 ? Afaik NRC will default to the language of the country you're in, assuming that language is available.

I live in France and can only access the French version, which isn't a problem for me language-wise. However I very rapidly realised that NRC wasn't my thing - I don't cope well with audio-guided runs - so I deleted the app. Personally I'd much rather run to Debussy anyway!

The thing is, I’m not in Spain, I’m in Scotland 🤣. I probably agree about Debussy being preferable but I did like being prompted by Steve Cram in C25k with music in the background. Just need to imagine his cheery voice telling me to stand tall, head up and that I’m ’looking good, feeling good’.

Oh dear, sounds like NRC's had a heavy night. 😫 Maybe uninstall and reinstall the app?

I did C25K with the original Laura podcasts and tbh didn't get on with the out-of-context commentary. I found it infuriating to be told I was "doing so well" when I self-evidently wasn't, or being informed I was "probably feeling a bit tired" when I felt great. Though I realise that most people seem to find external commentary helpful and motivating 😊

I’m clearly a bit more gullible than you are. I quite like the little words of encouragement but Laura is a bit annoying. Steve is much more fun!

I don't think it's a question of being gullible 😊 just personal preference.

Also, I tend to be hypersensitive to all sorts of sounds and audio inputs so try to avoid those that I might find problematic. I don't use car satnav unless I'm desperate because it freaks me out to have a disembodied voice announcing "Now turn left" when there's a stonking great road sign in front of me indicating that my destination is straight on!

The NHS C25K app isn't available outside the UK, so no choice of coach or my own listening for me - it was Laura and the original "music", or nothing!

Tech is wonderful…until it isn’t!!! The Nike Run Club app is a bit glitchy. I’ve not had your accidental Spanish problem but there have been other issues. Usually an uninstall/reinstall sorts it out. NRC isn’t universally loved. I go through phases where the runs feel samey or a bit too cheesy. There is no search function which is really annoying. You have to open up “all runs” under the “guided run” tab and scroll to find the one you want, or browse through the categories to find something that appeals. It’s not ideal. I’ve mainly used it with the plans to save the hassle of thinking too hard!

I haven’t found other apps that do similar, but I think   CBDB had had good experiences with coached runs on various apps.

Great run for you despite the tech grumbles..,finishing feeling you can go on is just the best!

🇪🇸 ¡Bien hecho!

I’ve deleted the App too. I’ve tried it twice and just find it irritating. I’m a Jo Whiley girl so pleased she’s made it to the next steps but after any kind of setback I just go back to a manageable C25K run and my trusty playlist.

Sounds like it was a good run despite the glitches in the app.

I find CB to be a bit corny, but he's been growing on me during the 10K plan. I do like the guided runs for the most part as I do like the tips and reminders of how far along I am.

I agree...there needs to be a search button for the runs...how odd that...!!!
