Totally obliterated my PB this morning. I ran on the flat on Hove seafront with a running club. Despite walking for a bit of it and not finishing the full 5K distance due to accidentally stopping my NRC app, I have to be happy with knocking over 2 minutes off my previous PB. I didn’t get a true reading from my FitBit watch because I accidentally stopped the NRC app and instead of carrying on running I stopped, thinking I had just paused the NRC app. I should have ignored the NRC app and just gone by the FitBit but I think I was so tired I wasn’t thinking straight.
Anyway, it doesn’t matter because my split times on both apps confirm I was much quicker today: they were 6’30” 7’00” 7’09” 7’39” and 7’53” - I was exhausted at the end and the final split time may have been slower had I completed the extra 0.09k but this represents real progress. Had I completed the extra distance it probably would have added another 30 seconds or so to my time.
Hope everyone had a nice new year.

Super run and smashing your PB on New Year’s Day too. Well done. Can I ask what club you run with as I moved to Brighton last year and I’ve been hoping to join a club. I’ve only ever run on my own or with my brother and feel I would benefit from running with others and maybe add more structure to my training regime. Especially with others who are a similar age.
Well it’s an informal group of friends who meet every Saturday morning. I don’t actually know what they call themselves as I was invited to join them for this run by a friend. It’s an informal club.
Thank you! Yes, I loved running on the beach. Not sure how often I’ll get down there but it was a real treat to breathe in clean air. When I couldn’t run anymore and started walking, I felt like it was a disaster, then I looked at the time after and was amazed that even with walking I’d still run faster than before. Going to do some interval running as it will help my progress (so I’m told). Happy New Year to you too.
Be careful. I’m in a running club and we’re on hold at the moment as everyone is only allowed to run with one other person in tier 4. Great PB though 😊
We don’t run together even before Covid. Everybody runs at different times and at a distance. I was invited along once as a guest but I could just as easily have been an independent runner as there are many people running on the seafront in Hove. I appreciate advice but I’m 57 and as my monicker indicates I have a lung issue and I’ve been vigilant about following all rules and protocols. Following guidelines isn’t just about me but about other people and I trust we are all looking out for each other. It annoys me when I see people openly flouting the guidelines.
