I couldn’t do my Tuesday run this week. Dealing with solicitors and Estate Agents made it all seem too much. This was the first run I had missed since starting the programme at the end of May.
I didn’t know if I would run this morning, either. I made a cuppa and found this mindful run on the NRC app. I’ve done a couple of NRC runs before and found them helpful. I looked out of the window and the early morning looked inviting. Did I have the energy to go out and run?
The Headspace run was for 35 minutes, so without my usual enthusiasm I thought I might as well give it a go. Quick shower and running clothes on.
I walked down to the washes and took a photo, promising myself that I would start taking photos again this week. I haven’t touched my camera since the first lockdown. Yesterday, I was following the Estate Agent round the house as he took photos, making sure I didn’t have to move anything out of the way. When I asked how many stops apart he had the camera set to for his bracketed shots, he gave me a bit of a look, so I thought I’d better leave him alone!
Warm up walk over, I start to run. I start too fast as usual but soon settle into an easy pace. Coach Bennett and Andy Puddicombe explain that a recovery run is more than physical recovery. As I ran, I was able to listen and appreciate what they were saying and feel better for it. They both give you food for thought and leave silent space for you to process what they have said.
After about a kilometre I also started to take notice of my surroundings and felt myself relax. The Whoopers must have gone out early this morning as I didn’t see any, but I saw a Barn Owl hunting along the ditches and a Kestrel hovering as I ran down the Deadend Track. I also saw a hare running across the fields. Later on, I spotted a fox going into a barn.
One of the village residents was walking his two cocker spaniels. He was the only person I saw on my run; maybe the lockdown is keeping people inside.
I knew that a 35 minutes slow and steady run for me would be about 4K. I didn’t push it, apart from the last couple of minutes after I got to 4K. I do feel better after the run and will definitely use it again. 😊
