Finally, a run happened. It’s been almost two weeks of covid-related misery and this morning I ran for fifteen minutes. It was tough but it feels amazing to have been running today instead of ages ago. Hooray!
The Olympic coverage didn’t help. There’s always something on to suck you in at the moment. Instead of heading out at 8am, I left the house at 10am. It was already HOT. I wasn’t sure if I’d missed the morning run window and decided to walk unless I really felt like running. My trusty couch to 5k main route seemed a good plan. After walking almost two miles, I hit a shady spot and decided to give the running a go. I knew my watch wouldn’t be my friend so I just put it on show the time mode and decided to ignore the stats.
Maybe it’s just me that has this twisted logic but I was quite glad that the heat gave me an excuse to find it tough. Mentally, it probably made that comeback run a lot easier than if I’d gone in the cool and was sweating like a trooper. It was nice to see a good number of butterflies and some massive bumble bees. The shade disappeared about halfway through and the shade of my face matched the berries on the hedgerow! When fifteen minutes popped up, I felt like I’d done enough and walked the rest of the way home. Surprisingly, my watch wasn’t too unhappy with me. 2.5km felt like a very nice distance to add to the monthly total. Maybe I’ll hit 50km.
So just a short run, and not even a particularly lovely one but one of the best to get done.
Stay cool everyone!

Fantastic run there, lowering your expectations takes all the pressure off doesn't it. You ran the run your way, the way you needed to and you're nicely set up to build yourself up to where you were before you got ill
Thank you! You’re absolutely right-once the run became “anything is a bonus, walking is totally fine” it made it much easier. Next time I’ll go at a much more sensible time of day!!
Thank you! At some point I’ll become a grown up and make friends with my alarm but during the summer holidays, I’m struggling!!! Well done to you though!!!
Glad you are recovered - there is a lot of it about at the moment. I had it recently too. You sound mightily pleased with that outing and so you should be!!!💪🥵💦😂
well done. I share your post COVID pain. I’m taking my come back very slowly. I thought I was better but a 25 min run on Saturday wiped me out for another 3 days. Off on holiday today so I’m planning nice brisk walks in the hills and sea dips and I’ll tackle the running when I get back when hopefully the sunshine and gin will have worked it’s magic
Great to have you back and running! I've heard from lots of folks that this variant of COVID hits really hard!
I went out this morning (0800) as well and the heat definitely affected me, too - especially in the sun. I did a bit of walking in mine, too. But when its this warm and you are recovering it should be about just getting out to run and not specifically about a distance or PB.
I was pleased I got the trainers on and got myself out the door.
Well done you, I just couldn't run at that time of day in this heat. It's got to be early for me. I like you to logic of using the heat as a reason for it to be tough.
I hope there were some ripe berries to eat on your walk home 😋
I wasn’t convinced the berries were edible…I erred on the side of caution and had a packet of crisps when I got back!! I ran again today-10am again and it was hideous. What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing and expecting different results. 🤦♀️. Still, 30 mins done this time and a calippo to celebrate. The next run will be early or late…I hope!!!
I always have a HUGE sense of relief when I see your run post. Here you are, back with us, choosing your route, getting it done...and suddenly all's well on tge forum x.
There is a certain familiar joy in running one of our favourite C25K routes isn't there.? Even when we've done loads of others and so many distance and time variations...
Very well done you...and I'm glad you're here and feeling better xxx
Thank you so much! It’s been a bit of a rough couple of weeks with one thing and another but things are looking up. Maybe instead of roiling seas, the next pictures I’ll be drawing will have lovely calm waters and gently flowing streams. Maybe with a few rapids for a bit of fun when the time is right!!
I love the familiarity of a well worn route. This one has served me particularly well! It’s lovely to see the changes through the year. There are currently Shetland pony foals which is a bonus!
🍏🤗🙌 You are back! How wonderful!! So good to read all about it too!! Encourages us all to listen to our bodies and to take each run accordingly… thank you! 🤩
