7km Magic morning run

The last run I did was a disaster. I did everything wrong from eating too close to running, drinking too much coffee, running at midday when it’s too hot and planning a route with no shade. It ended with me nearly vomiting in a busy reservoir.

I’ve been a bit nervous about going out again but this morning (spurred on by Me_time ’s similar experience) I decided to just get out there and do something to try and have a positive run.

It was glorious. Spring springing. Birds singing. I’d planned to do the shortest run of the week and see how I felt. It wasn’t the easiest but since 3.5km came up at the top of a hill, I decided I could carry on and tick off the 5km run. By the time 5km popped up, I was really enjoying it and carried on to finish the 7km run. I was so glad I did. Demons from the last run well and truly vanquished.

As a bit of a bonus, on my extension 2km I came across a field of donkeys! It’s always nice to make a new friend when you’re out running…

Oh! That is just brilliant on many counts. You smashed those gremlins, had a great run and saw the donkeys. To me, that sounds just perfect 👌.

It really was one of those magic runs where everything feels great (by the end!). I felt like I probably could have kept going but I’m trusting the programme (same as the c25k) and sticking to the distances. I don’t want to ruin it now with an injury. We’re really lucky with wildlife around here and I regularly see birds of prey, bunnies, deer, pheasants etc. The donkeys were a welcome new spot.

Oh very well done. It’s great when you have those runs when your happy to continue on. Great running to 7K. Great confidence booster.

Thanks-I’m still on a bit of a high a few hours and a lot of dull life admin later. The rest of the week just has a 5k and a 3.5k so I know I’ve got those in my legs. I can’t wait to try next week’s longer run which is not something I thought I’d be saying first thing.

7K is a great distance, good for improving 5K and not too far away from 10K should you wish to enter a 10K race. I’m planning on doing a 7K myself on Sunday. Need to start increasing distance myself now.

I’ve got a 10K booked for June-a very enthusiastic friend convinced me I’d definitely be able to run that far by then. I’m starting to believe it might be possible!

Oh you will have no problem. 10K’s are fantastic events. Enjoy your training.

The previous run wasn't a total disaster. You learned a lot from it.

That’s a very good point. I’ll reframe it as “the last run was a not particularly enjoyable but valuable learning experience”! I definitely know now not to expect indigestion to get any better during a hot, sunny run…

Wow, you did so well and didn't let the not-so-good last run affect this run negatively.Good plan to get the longer run out of the way when you are having such a good run. The rest of the week will be easy-peasy for u.

The 7k run seems too daunting to me but I will cross that bridge when I get there. Hopefully I will be ready for it.
