Good to be home

After two days of driving 14 or more hours (thankfully not just me driving) we arrived home at midnight on Wednesday. I didn't run on Thursday, in fact I felt so rotten I had to have a nap in the afternoon :)

Today though I was awake by 6.45, a full Body Battery and nearly 8 hours sleep. Run time! Had a coffee and some beetroot juice, then decided to have half a banana too to see if that would make any difference. Went to get dressed in my running gear...and couldn't find it. I'm absolutely sure I packed it but I unpacked my suitcases yesterday and just can't find it. Oh well, I have other running stuff so that was alright.

It wasn't just me, my husband left his running shoes behind, he thought I'd put them in the car and I thought he'd do it, so he was running in some normal trainers.

Despite the setbacks it was good to be out on our local paths. Things have changed in the two weeks we've been away. A field of beans, which was lush and green when we left, is now all blackened and dried up. I wonder what happened there, it almost looks burnt (is anyone a farmer who could explain?)

I was going slowly. It was one of those runs where it's kind of hard work. Usually if I have a 3 day break I'm raring to go but not today. Decided to lean into it and just do a slow one. After all, we all agree speed is overrated, don't we? 😂 I also decided that the banana hadn't really done much to help either.

That cheeky Mr Garmin downgraded my VO2 from 'excellent' to 'good' and added a year to his assessment of my age, but who cares, it's just another number to be ignored, isn't it? It's just great to be able to run in this beautiful bit of countryside again :)

🍏🤗 Welcome home & well done on getting out there in spite of all the travelling & leaving valuable kit behind. There are days when I wish I could lose my watch!! When they start chirping & bossing one around when all you are trying to do is have a quiet run… mmm 🤔 🤣🤣

Thanks, it's really good to be back 😁Regarding the watch, every so often mine tells me that my heart rate is 0. I worked out that this wasn't accurate (hmm, huge powers of deduction in play 😂)

(It actually seems to be an indication I'm moving from one heart rate zone to another. Useful, but like you point out quite intrusive when you're trying to concentrate and enjoy the run)

Pesky Garmin! I dread to think what mines going to do after a fortnight of no runs. Have strong words with yours!!

Glad you’re back-home runs are lovely to pick up again when you’ve been away. Taking it steady when it’s tough is a good plan. Maybe some of the travel time still in your legs? It always takes me a while to be back to full power after a lot of sitting!

Enjoy the British sunshine!!

Garmin tends to keep the VO2 steady while I'm not running, then as soon as I get back to it it will add an extra 10 years to my age while I'm not looking lol

It's definitely taken a while to get over the journey, all that sitting, junk food etc is really not good but hoping that the next run will be a bit easier, loving the cool sunny weather here :)

Same!! I’ve just checked and I’ve already ages 2.5years in a fortnight. To be fair, at yoga this morning I was creaking so much that it felt like I’d aged more like ten so I’ll take that for now! We’ll see what happens when the runs happen….

At least we’ve got some solidarity in having judgemental Garmins!!

Good to be home and on familiar fields... there is something so reassuring about that:)

Speed can be overrated, and listening to what the body is saying makes it all feel easier...mostly! I only use my Garmin for certain things... and I am happier when it is just recording the distance and time..

The run is the thing... out there and doing it... well done you... home again:)

Thanks, I'm really appreciating the home comforts and surroundings. Also trying not to look at the Garmin too often, mostly just use it to keep an eye on my heart rate. It's too hot to push too hard :)
