It's been pretty warm where I'm staying so short, slow runs are the order of the day. I ran on Friday, then did a 10 km walk on Saturday which took it out of me a bit so had a day off yesterday. This morning it was time for the last run of our stay, and even though we left by 9am it was hot, 24C in the full sun, noticeably warmer than Friday.
We set off towards the forest. NRC seemed to be under recording distances, while Garmin was extending them. At one point my watch was showing my pace as 9:40 while my husband, running at the same pace, showed 8:25 on his watch. What better reason to ignore the numbers?
Even under the trees it was warm, and the dry weather over the last week has transformed the sandy paths from firm underfoot to powdery, hard work. By the end of the run, a stretch in full sun, I was really feeling the truth of the saying 'when you run it feels 10C warmer than the actual temperature'. I could have sworn it was in the 30s, really uncomfortable. I've been knocked out all day, normally a run like this would leave me feeling invigorated.
Ah well, maybe I'll look back on this post in November and be grateful for the rain and clouds we'll have by then
