What a lovely morning for a run !

Today was my day for a 5K and with the ever increasing temperatures it was worth getting up early , in fact, up at 5:30

And out of the door at 05:59

The thinest of shorts and t shirt were in order for today .

There was a lovely cool breeze as I did my 5 Mins warm up walk , I had already decided this was going to be a good run !

The intention was to control the run from start to finish and concentrate on my splits , set of slow and warm up , gradually increase pace through the Kms and finish with plenty left in the tank .

It makes such a difference to your run .

For me, the hardest part is setting off slow enough, the legs want to go faster .

It can also be tricky with the inclines .

My first Km is fairly flat but the 2nd is a long slight downhill and easy to let the pace pick up too much .

My 3rd Km had an uphill section , again difficult to maintain a steady pace it then finishes with a downhill section .

Again, the 4th and 5th Kms undulate .

I try to run by accessing my breathing with occasional glances at the watch .

I was feeling good throughout this run and was very happy how it worked out ,

I had almost forgot how pleasant it is to run early in the morning and this was certainly one of my most enjoyable 5Ks for a while .

My playlist was quite appropriate.

Starting with Pink Floyd's 'Breathe' followed with 'Set the controls for the heart of the sun' , 'Fat old sun' and finishing with 'Comfortably numb' 😁

Back home , stretches , porridge, tea and a shower and ready for my day .

Happy running VRB's 😁🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Yes, yes and yes! Great run and the old favourites music wise 🎶.

What’s not to like about this run? Early start to beat the heat, positive attitude, controlled run with negative splits and great music!

Finishing with the Breakfast of Champions! 🥣 👍

Well done, Ian 👏👏👏🏃‍♀️👍

Impressive sense of purpose there, no? I’m finding it really hard to slow the starting pace, even when I ‘decide’ (to start slow) and even when I realise I need to ease off. So extra impressed by your ability to control this. Hope your next outing is as good as this.

Thank you !And yes I absolutely agree, getting that initial pace right is not easy !

At the start of the run your legs just want to get going

I had to really watch it in that first half km.

It's definitely worth persisting with , you feel so much better at the end of the run

Yay a fab post for a fab run 😃 well done on controlling your pace from the start, it really paid off 💪🏃‍♂️ I have the same problem - no matter how often Coach Bennett warns me, I always start off too fast 🙄 I'm hoping the heat will help me get a grip 🥵🤣

Thank you ! And yes, it's tough , the legs just want to set off faster .

I really had to concentrate and keep slowing down .

Felt so much better for it though at the end of the run 😁
