After a weekend on the motorbike in Leiston, I earmarked this morning for my long run... hopefully 9miles.
When I got home from Leiston yesterday, 160mls.....I was shattered! If any of you have ever ridden a bike, youโll know how a long ride takes it out of you mentally. The concentration levels are intense!
I slept like a log last last and awoke at 6.30 to the sound of birdsong and thought โRight, up we get for my runโ ๐
After a banana and some water, I set off with the intention of doing 9mls. It was warm but not too warm so I set off at a sensible pace. After 3k it had really started to warm up and at that point self doubt re doing 9mls started to creep in. My breathing was fine but my legs were feeling tired... was it the bike ride yesterday?? ๐ค I kept going to just over 5k and was sweating buckets, Iโd brought my hydration belt with me for the first time, and soon downed the water.
I decided I was going to turn back and conceded defeat re covering 9mls ๐
By the time I got home I was cooking..... Iโm really canโt handle the heat.....but the usual elated feeling came over me, Iโd covered 6.5mls in conditions I hate ๐ค
Itโs apparently going to be cooling down next week, so I live to fight another day ๐

The heat is an absolute killer - either you like it or you donโt and Iโm like you, I find it really hard running in this heat. Roll on some cool soft rain! Well done for a really great run in very challenging conditions ๐๐ป
Well done TedG for getting one in - it was v hot this morning. Better to accept a shorter run and feel able to fight another day. Let's hope for a cool breeze soon.
Well done for running in the heat. I totally understand the efforts required on the bike. I once road from lloret de mar on the med into france and onwards to cambridge over 1000 miles with the only break other than fuel stops being the hour or so on the ferry. I was destroyed lol. Reminds me I need to get my bike out of the garage as hardly been near it with all the running lately.
Oh it's a boring Kawasaki Versys 1000 - touring/cross with foglights and paniers etc. I used to ride ninjas and do trackdays etc, so this was a comfortable return to riding with a bike that could be a commuter as well as being pokey enough for scratching. I don't seem to be doing much of either on it these days though lol. What about yourself, going to a rally makes it sound like your part of a patch gang lol
I have a Speed Triple which is a brilliant bit of kit.... does what it says on the tin ๐
Iโm a member of the Honda Owners Club, had lots of them in the past, the best being my old VFR, great bike. We were at David Silverโs yesterday, there was a Classic Show there.
Good run Ted. I think itโs just the heat. Iโm a sun worshipper, but I didnt even do 6k this morning. I was more tired than usual. I could have pushed on, but I run for enjoyment so what was the point?
Thanks Flick, Iโm with you on running for enjoyment. I suppose I couldโve pushed myself this morning but that wouldโve taken the enjoyment from it!
Itโs going to turn cooler next week so it can wait ๐
Ah good. My longest run to date is 11.18 km and i want to go further, but, having had a touch of heatstroke at the weekend (plonker, forgot my hat,) I darent push it while itโs hot.
Still a great run mate, well done considering the conditions. I went out this evening for the first time in 10 days, managed 10k but found it very tough.
Blimey Ted 9 miles??! You are doing great . Great to get 6.5 miles under your belt on a day like today. I've just got myself back up to 5k again after being on the IC for what seems like forever but is actually 3 months. Can't see me getting back to 10k for a while! Glad to hear you are cracking on though - you are unstoppable - current weather conditions permitting!
