5k reclaimed 🥳

I have been merrily working my way back through C25K and consolidating over the last months after having quite a long gap in my running. 2 weeks ago I ran 5k again for the first time in ages. It was absolutely brilliant!

At some point I will pick up the Magic Plan again but for the moment I am enjoying a mix of shorter runs and 5K. Anyway, I thought I’d pop in and say hello. Great to see lots of familiar names!!

Hello !

Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous... How many of have done what you have done and felt just as you do...

It is simply terrific and well done to you and well done too, on deciding where you are going... Shorter runs, 5Ks, 30 minutes or so, and going with it... I am doing similarly... got back to10 K, but owing to all sorts of things decided to take some tips from PeggySusi and decided to ease back and shake it up.

I think you will love your plan and may be amazed how your running evolves too.

Please do pop in and let us know how it is going? x

Thanks Oldfloss! You read my mood perfectly. It’s such a great feeling when all is right in the running world, isn’t it? Next target is 10k (after a pause at 5) then ultimately the big goal will be 10 miles. I’ve never done that and have hankered after that particular badge for a long time. 😂 But small steps…. 🐌🐌🐌🐌

Hi Fionamags. Welcome back!! So pleased that you have found the fun in running again. The world is at your feet and great timing too; we are due some decent weather (said he preparing to head out into another wet and chilly day!) Look forward to hearing how things are going as you progress even further (if that is what you choose to do 🙂).

I definitely have 10K in my sights but I remember how “creaky” I got with the longer distances so I’m trying to rein in the impulse to keep extending until I’ve done a few more weeks of 5ks. Hopefully regular Pilates and strength training will avert the niggles this time round.

I learned the hard way that, for me, running alone isn’t enough to avoid injury. Having just run a HM, I feel absolutely wrecked!

I was cycle touring for a few weeks in April/May and I found my running legs felt way stronger after that. Might be good cross training?? Half marathon though ….. that must be amazing!!!!

I am sure that cycling is good cross training. I run three times a week, walk our Old English every day, swim once a week, and do strengthening and muscle loosening exercises. Not sure I could fit cycling in.Today’s HM was hard work, at least the last two K’s were…..running the early sections too fast was a bad idea! Getting to HM is just an extension of Bridge to 10k; in my case 1x 6k Hill run, one speed run (intervals or tempo) and one long run which increases in distance week on week. NRC HM Plan is great. But first things first….10k plan next with strengthening built in as you choose. Long slow runs are really good for strength.🙂

Welcome back! Good to see you are enjoying running again. I’ve been working on increasing fitness, too - it feels so good to redo those milestones. Well done for that 5K.

It sounds like you’re being sensible and not trying to do too much too soon. The other milestones will come 👏👏👏😥🏃‍♀️
