Went to lister Park parkrun fantastic Park 1 hill but fairly flat and got a good time not my fastest but I enjoyed it and I got a new mile time. What sort of time is a good mile time for a man in his 50's?

Well done on that parkrun! What does a “good time” mean to you? I don’t think there’s a single definition. You could look up average mile times by age and sex if you were interested in that sort of thing and that would give you the sort of information you wanted? I wonder how meaningful it would be since running is so personal.

I’d suggest that that mile time was a very good one for you since it’s the fastest you’ve ever run it! I’ve quite enjoyed working on getting faster at specific distances. It was a nice, very measurable focus to have. Are you thinking of taking on your mile pb as a goal?

Hi, and thank you, the mile, not something I'm looking at. I really want to break the 5k 30 minutes barrier but I suppose along the way the mile will become quicker

Ah fab. I was just wondering because you were asking about good mile times. You’re absolutely right-as you work on 5k, your mile time will drop. It is very satisfying when those new PBs come up. Good luck with this new journey!

Very well done on doing your parkrun. Great effort. My advice is, don't compare yourself to others. Just compare yourself to you. When you get a PB celebrate it, because you are faster than YOU were before. Everyone is different, so we can't compare unless you want to try and make sense of Age Graded results from parkrun. All I know is I'm doing 100% better and running faster than all the people who are still in bed on a Saturday morning.😀

DEFINITELY just hoping my 5k times come down eventually

They will. Just keep plodding away. When your legs get used to running and your endurance improves, so too will your pace. 80% nice comfortable running and 20% interval speed training. Just don't try to build it up too quickly, that's how people get injured. Build it up bit by bit and most of all, enjoy the journey.

To me ...a good time is one where you run the run, you feel comfortable and you have enjoyed it !

damienair is absolutely right.
