Was 1% Correct regarding running for 1 mile?

Not sure if that report about only 1% of people can run a mile is correct. I read on the Runner's World Website that 1% is the percentage of people who can and have ran a MARATHON, there is, of course, a big difference in running a marathon and running for 1 mile.

Whatever the real answer (and a professional statistician will be along shortly), I know that you're in a special band of running wonderfulness Alan. Take comfort in that, my caber-tossing chum :-)

I am so glad that you are recovering from your recent injuries Stephen, still on course for that Paris Marathon next April. I am now fully recovered, my hip is no longer sore, even when I run, but yet to attempt running a full 5k, I want to run it in a decent time, about the pace I was running at my graduation and first post-graduation run. I go for that we are among the 1% who can run for a mile without stopping no matter what a professional statistician will come up with.

I have a degree in Statistics, but can't help without the raw data.

However, I would be astounded if 1% of people worldwide had run a Marathon. There are estimated to be 7,643,000,000 people in the world, that's 76,430,000 marathoners: Seventy Six and a half million of them! No way, Jose!

I might believe 0.1%.

Now if we are talking about Western World (especially: American influence), then I'd easily believe 99% of us can't run a mile.

I can't even carry a caber... 😉

Well said 'theoldfellow' far too few of us in the Western World can run for any more than 100 metres, let alone a mile, we here on C25K should be very pleased that we are among that 1% running club who have and can run for a mile without stopping.

Unless there's a cake stall en route. It'd be criminal not to stop for that :-)

Just about to have a cake for my evening meal, my goodness me, we have been demoted, I notice that AlMorr, sallenson and the oldfellow have not got the word 'Graduate' on the right-hand side of their name, ha ha, that is a computer error, we are of course ALL graduates.

On the Bridge forum we don't. We're children. But we do on the C25K forum.

I wonder how long that user requirement took to thrash out :-)

Enjoy your cake, Alan. You deserve it. You running grad, you :-)

Yep, what Sallenson said.

Once you’ve done 10k you have to apply for your badge like in c25k. The one on here says Graduate 10.

I'm just sitting on the 10K bridge right now, not yet planning to cross it.

Come on over - no passport required just some sweat and determination 😅. The view behind is amazing but the one ahead is limitless
