From completing C25k twice over 2 years, 25 park runs later and several minor, annoying injuries, I finally achieved my next goal of taking part in my first 10k event at the weekend. Successfully remained injury free, took my training increases slowly, ate sensibly (the day before anyway!),
3 trips to the loo before it even started, nerves just about kept in check and I’m ready. A glorious chilly and sunny morning in Bournemouth and I lined up with my sister in law. Dreading the steep ‘zig zags’ half way on the route but actually found they were less of a problem than I had built them up to be. The second half was even quite enjoyable and I paced myself using the NRC 10k race app and a Spotify 10k running mix which worked for me. Crossed the line in 69.24mins which was about 5 mins better than I thought I’d achieve.
Runners medal and t-shirt in hand, complimentary water gulped and smugly strolled back through the lovely Winter Gardens, still basking in the sunshine and my new found 10k runners glow. Signing up for next years event and in the meantime will continue with Park Run and keep an eye out for other 10k events. That distance is enough for me x

Huge Congratulations to you on completing your first 10K Event. Fantastic. I'm the very same, 10K is my max distance. I'm a big parkrun fan and love 5K distance. Every now and then I'll train to run 10K and then I'll take part in a random 10K event. I was training last year for a Half Marathon and got up to 18K, but once I was running for more than an hour I hated it. Just not for me.
Massive congratulations to you! It’s a brilliant achievement and one to celebrate. You might like to claim a virtual badge by dropping Folkylass a line on the thread below…
10k is such a lovely distance to run. It’s great to find what you enjoy and what suits your lifestyle. There’s a virtual 10k run by the lovely Fun Beyond 10k and Race support team taking place in May. Details below if you’re interested.
