Another 10k with Coach Bennett

It's been 3 weeks since my last run above 5k. I've not been well, recovering from not being well, jetting off on hols, you get the picture. Despite claiming my first 10k well before Christmas, I still have to steel myself to do it. I can run 4 or 5k without thinking about it. Out the door, run, job done. But 10k, well there is still that psychological barrier for me to overcome. Last night as I was drifting off to sleep, I did a virtual run of my chosen route, encouraging myself that it will be fine. And for this distance, well I also need Coach B to support me all the way and what a good job he did too, with lots to think about. I didn't need any accompanying music today because the birdsong was amazing. They too seemed to be celebrating a no wind and no rain day. What a wonderful soundtrack. Well I ran over to our neighbouring village and around their playing fields and back again. Only one tentative moment with a roadwidth puddle. Saw these daffodils, my first of the season so had to stop to admire them. At 6k Coach B says, 'right I want you to slow down, ease off now', well I took him too literally, as I decided I needed to do some stretches, find my sweeties and take a drink. Then it was homeward. Imagine my delight, not only 10k, but one of my fastest times too. So much for slowing down!!! I'll do that next time. Happy running everyone 🏃🏃‍♀️

Thanks, I was amazed at the time. The last km Coach B said to speed up if you thought you had enough left in the legs. Just swing those arms a bit more, breathe steadily and let the body do the rest. I tell you it felt like I was flying, however, I knew I could not keep it up for the whole km so made the decision to peg the speed. Who knows what the time would have been if I had been able to keep that flying pace.
