Silly title because half hour is the same as it always is, no faster no slower .I'm taking a slow return though and back to some of my early run paces, 5 min warm up, 20 min run, 5 min cool down.
Thanks to Jools2020 I now know how to create my own workout and send it to my watch.
The warm up walk was uneventful and I managed to cross the 2 roads needed before setting off at a ridiculously slow run, I've felt a bit embarrassed running this slow and imagine people in cars going by thinking....look at that old girl, so slow, don't know why she bothers.....but I'm protecting my eye and doing something I love.
Up and over the railway bridge, I'd wondered if my heartrate would go above my target of 120-130 but it didn't go near. Tootled down the other side and began to feel the rhythm of the run.
A van wanted to turn right into a driveway but was waiting for me to cross so I sped up a bit thinking that was thoughtful of him, whoops, had to slow right down to slow my heart again.
Turned into the industrial estate, so tempting to run round the circle but too far for today so turned at about the halfway point. Steadily ran home. The temperature has risen to a balmy 5 degrees but the wind is picking up and feels icy.
And home! Average heartrate 120, ran the whole 20 minutes, will increase this by 5 minutes a week.
I heard a good saying this morning. " believe what you can do or believe what you can't do. They are both right".
I believe I can run a half marathon distance and will build up slowly so I run all or most of it.
What do you believe?
Run happy or rest well. ๐
Photo is from my walk the other day, looking towards Brighton, one day I will run there, it's not that far ๐คฃ

Perfect. Sounds like a lovely relaxing feelgood run. Perfect time of year to start building up distance slowly and carefully towards that half marathon goal. I'm trying to build up towards that HM again too - I have yet to try loading workouts on my Garmin but will definitely give it a try....Enjoy your runs and look after that eye so it can look after you in your quest for HM glory!
Well done on your run. Never mind how slow it appeared, thereโs plenty of time for speedy runs when youโre fully recovered. Protecting your eyes is much more important. ๐
Any pace is good as long as you are running! Will watch your progress with interest as I'm aiming for a half marathon this year too. Would be interested to know how to put customised workouts on my watch.
Bottom right more, select workout, create workout, adjust the figures, top right 3 little dots select save then add to calendar then there's an oblong next to that, click it and it saves to watch, ๐
That sounds like a fabulous positive run, good job! Great pic too. We had some lovely sunrises/ sunsets this week over the water. Unfortunately on this most gorgeous one I was on my way to work, not running!
Sounds perfect and another great photo from you too.
So glad that you are seeing so much better now that youโve had your cataracts sorted. Eyesight is a wonderful thing! Iโm glad for what I currently have for sure xx
Well done Sue. I love your posts. They are so descriptive. The photo is beautiful, amazing colours. And Iโm so impressed with your discipline, keeping the running slow to protect your eye but 20 minutes is a respectable distance. I believe you can run a half marathon too. I believe I can run 10k. 2024 is the year we will both achieve these goals and more. Xx
I believe in YOU SueAppleRun and I'm proud to have someone as supportive of you on the forums. You touched me with this piece because all that really matters in all of this is as you said, 'doing something I love.' There's so very much running gives you and us all. When people think something like, 'don't know why she bothers....' it's because unless they run, they'll never get it. Never understand. Never appreciate or know. Runners DO get it. If I do a Parkrun there'll be loads of runners shooting by me, when I run a Marathon, thousands of people have run by me. I'm slow to them. I run against and for myself. I'm slow in that sense to those whizzing past but it matters not because those people appreciate my effort, sacrifice and will to run. Just as I watch people starting out and struggling in the first km of a Parkrun, they blow me away by putting themselves out there.
You keep out there, keep going and one day (like I've always said) you'll do the HM distance. Run, walk or skip, you'll do it and before then, all these runs are going to get you there. Keep inspiring โญ๐
Wow thank you very much GTFC , high praise indeed, I yearn for the ability to run faster but when I do the joy goes out of it, so for now I'm keeping my heartrate low and building on continuous runs again, it's slower than I want but I'm being patient. It's helped knowing I have to keep it gentle to protect my eye.... And that's healing nicely ๐
That sounds great and I like your plan! For interest, what watch do you use and what mins per k do you have to run to keep to 120bpm? I'm having trouble keeping my hr down. Well done for your discipline and looking after your new eyes!! ๐
Thanks, I've got a Garmin and my mins per k were 11.45 yesterday, which would have been a slow walk a year ago, but I didn't get puffed out, I didn't need to take walk breaks and I felt great after.
Thanks Sue. I defo need to upgrade. Well thanks to you, I have just returned from a very slow run and managed to keep to lower HR, so I CAN do it. Thank you for all the inspiration. Believe - almost could say, 'be, live' which is what you are doing to the full. Thank you!! ๐ค๐ช๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
๐ is good, Excellent base training for building up for a long run. I have sheduled some of that for this year when the weather improves. Hope to do a long run with youngest Daughter this year so will have to be ready ๐
excellent. Iโve done the same thing last week or so recovering from COVID. Just being outside and shuffling along has felt wonderful and I keep telling myself a couple of years ago 1 minute was a huge achievement
Exactly! That first minute felt like forever didn't it? Whereas I now have to set watch to tell me it's time to stop and go home, I could probably have run twice as far yesterday but it wouldn't have done me any good .COVID is so horrible and leaves us feeling tired for a long time after, hope you continue to enjoy running
Iโm a bit slow in replying Sue but then thatโs my watchword these days! But I have resigned myself to the fact Iโll never be fast and if the odd car has to slow down as I trot across the road, then so be it! Youโre out there and running, go you!
Thanks, like you I'll never be fast, but I've found if I go slow enough I can run and run, I'll lengthen the time soon, but maybe not this week while it's wet and windy
great little run for you SAR. look after that eye and it will look after you in the future. Iโve put myself on the IC as my hip is giving me gyp and my heel is also sore again. Going to physio tomorrow to see if theyโre connected and what I can or should be doing. Envious of your future dream of Half marathon as I had hoped that I might be getting to that stage in my running career by now but itโs obviously not meant to be. Enjoy your slow runs ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Thank you and I do feel for you being back on the IC. My sight is just so amazing now, I'm keeping running really slow for st least another week or two, and will then step it up by tiny increments, I'm enjoying trotting along without getting puffed out. Good luck with the physio
Wow that picture! What a view. I absolutely believe you can get to that HM-youโve got so much determination and running brings you so much joy that youโll get there. Do you think youโll follow the Nike plan? Itโs always nice to have Coach Bennett along with you! Exciting times for you! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
Thanks MissU, for now I'm leaving NRC at home , I'm just running really slow and keeping going, last year was an odd year I did a lot of run faster then walk and was coming home exhausted, this way I can build up without getting too tired, achy or breathless. At the moment I could walk faster but sticking with it for now.
That sounds perfect. It sounds like youโve really thought about what will work for you and made a wise decision to take it steady. Getting exhausted all the time is just a recipe for being fed up and burnt out. Much better to do it the way youโve planned!
