Well its been a week of staying in, doing nothing and getting over whatever it was I had. Its been just over a week so I took myself out to see what I could do. I decided to try out my trail shoes..... won't be doing that again. They felt heavy, ploddy, most uncomfortable and my feet were all over the place on the pavements which are like uneven trails.
I headed for the seafront, found the tide low enough to run on the sand...just. staggered down the beach over pebbles then soft shingle.
The sand was very wet and sinky and the wind blew me back, but I plodded on until I reached the half way point, stumbled back up the beach ( thats the hill done) and ran back home again.
There was quite a bit of walking, some swearing, but I covered 5k and happy even though very slow. I'm almost better but my heartrate was through the roof so not quite there yet. Garmin ignored me and V02MAX didnt change but my fitness age dropped by half a year.
Have a great weekend all.

Catching up after some unplanned days away for family matters. sorry to hear you’ve been ill. Its tough to do that first run after illness so well done for carrying on in the wind and with uncomfortable shoes! A 5k is a great result so it doesn’t matter that it wasn’t quite the pace you hoped! I’m sure I’d have given up! Hope you’re fully recovered soon.
Good to hear that you are getting back out and picking up the threads again. I’ve not managed much in the last two weeks but am looking forwards to the park run tomorrow, and the coffee, cake and chat with new running buddies afterwards!
Well done , hopefully the week rest will have done you a lot of good help you rejuvenate your batteries and your feeling a bit better. Take it easy and have a good weekend
Sorry you haven't been well, I missed that! Seems to be a thing these days that it takes a good while to fully shake off an infection, so that 5k must have felt good in spite of the trail shoes-hope you are fully recovered soon.I have a pair of trail shoes that only feel ok when I'm on muddy trails. Pavement or baked hard earth make it feel like I have planks of wood on my feet, I mainly wear them gardening these days🤭
Glad to hear that you are feeling better. The first run back was always going to be tough . It sounds like a tough route in uncomfortable shoes made it even tougher!Onwards and upwards!
Well done for getting back out after your illness Sue. I know how hard those first runs back feel - I had a similar experience (twice actually) within the past year or so.
I bet you’re pleased you got out though, and hopefully next time you will feel even better. 🤞
Glad you’re feeling a bit better but sounds like you haven’t quite shaken it. Well done for 5k no matter if it was walk a little, run a little, swear a little - it was still a good outing. Make sure you rest up before going again
Sorry to hear you haven’t been well Sue, I hadn’t spotted it because I haven’t really been on the forum much recently. I hope you’re feeling a bit better now and continue to improve because I believe you’re doing the New Forest 10Km aren’t you?! I’m not surprised the trail shoes didn’t feel right on the pavement but you’ll find on grass and trails they’ll be just the job! But you got out there which hopefully made you feel better so well done you!
Thank you, yes I feel back to normal today, at last full of energy and wanting to eat. I'm getting very excited about the New Forest 10k now. The trail shoes felt equally awful on squidgy sand, everything about them felt wrong, so they've gone to the back if the cupboard for now . I'm hoping for a gentle run tomorrow.
My heart rate is silly too; it is the last thing to improve as I struggle back to fitness ….so I tend not to look at it too closely. You will get there 👍.
🍏Good to hear about that run but even more important hat you are feeling better dear Sue! Enjoy that run today & hopefully the heart rate will behave too 💜🏃♀️🌸
Well done Sue glad you are feeling better and did that 5k, but take care...I wonder if it WAS Covid after all... I am just starting to feel a bit better after Covid (3 weeks on) and I can hardly get upstairs without my legs hurting! Very annoying as I was just starting to ramp up the km after my achilles thing. There seems to be a lot of it about and a strain that is pretty nasty. Xx
