NRC 10k Plan: 'Week' 1 completed

As the Beatles said '8 days a week'! It's only taken me 8 days to complete the first week of the Plan!

This morning was my last Week 1 run, braving the frost. It was a glorious morning and very bright. The thermometer on our suntrap of a balcony said 10C, but Garmin told me it was actually 0C. I forgot to wear a hat but my head was plenty warm enough in the sunshine. I'd forgotten to brush my hair so it was a bit floofed up, obviously helps retain the heat.

The run was NRC's 4k Starting Lines, Coach B giving things to think about as we ran. Thanks to the frost the ground was nice and firm underfoot, and the absence of rain these last few days seems to have got rid of the standing water. A very pleasant change.

I made a point of trying not to look at my watch for stats on heart rate and pace, only checking distance when Coach had been quiet for an uncharacteristically long time. It seems to have been a good move, a reasonable time to complete the run and a not excessive heart rate.

Here's to Week 2 :) 🏃‍♀️💨

Woo-hooooo! Week 1 in the bag 😁 I took my HR off my screen so that I could just run by feel when I wanted. Be chuffed with this and then go again ⭐

Good plan. Maybe a late New Year's resolution: stop looking at the numbers :)

I had the same experience with that run-he did seem to disappear. I’m glad it’s not just me! Great photo. The sky looks particularly lovely. It’s still such a treat to run in dry weather.

It’s always satisfying to tick off a week! I’m skipping the speed run and moving on to week 2. Think we need a mini celebration for week 1 done. ✔️ 👏🎉

Running without being beholden to the watch is such a good skill to have. Hopefully there’ll be lots of lovely runs to come where you (we!!) get the hang of it!

Woo hoo! Celebration coming up 🍾🥇🎈🥳🥳🥳

I can't take credit for the photo, my husband took it. He left the house a bit earlier than me. He actually takes most of the better photos I post :)

I was making breakfast for my son who had an important exam today so needed a bit of nurturing. I didn't set off until the exam started. Remote exams, things have really changed since my day!

Not quite sure what my next run will be. I'm going away for a week on Sunday and don't know if I can fit my running kit into my Ryanair small carry on bag. Not sure whether to do the two short runs tomorrow and Saturday, or whether to rest tomorrow, do a 5k on Saturday and have the week off after that. Decisions decisions. Or maybe to take out a couple of tshirts and put the running gear in there and wear my second best pair of running shoes then I can just carry on. Decisions, decisions..

We'll get the hang of it soon enough, we're doing pretty well so far, aren't we?
