NRC 10k plan, run 3

So today was the first speed run. I've had a funny relationship with speed runs, interval runs, fartleks and so on ever since I did couch to 5k. I've always sort of felt that the gold standard is continuous running and that any sort of walking doesn't really count. I've also felt that I only have one speed and that is very slow. But I have tried over the last year or so to do some intervals and I do find that if I make myself do them, I do enjoy them. And yet if I'm going to drop any run in a week it will invariably be the speed run or the intervals run!But I'm really trying to give the nrc 10k plan a proper go so today there it was in the plan: first speed run. It was sunny here today but cold. I'd done my YWA so I already had my stretchy gear on so I added another layer, a buff and some gloves and off I went. I'm finding that the yoga seems to help with getting going at the start of a run. I suppose even though its a different sort of exercise I must be in some way warmed up.

It was just so bright and beautiful after so many days of grey and rain. I just loved being outside and I like coach Cory too. I thought I'd just throw myself into it and really run in the running bits and gently walk in the recovery bits. And surprisingly I loved it. It was so good to be out that after lunch I suggested to Ian that we went out and walked my running route together. I know this is going to get harder but so far, so good!

Sorry about the sideways pic! I've tried and tried but it looks fine in the draft and lies on its side in the post!

On a bright crisp morning there isn't much better than throwing everything at an interval run is there? Every time I'm doing one I'm surprised at how much fun it can be if you're in the right mood. We're at the same stage with the NRC 10k. I should have done the recovery run today but don't really like to run two days in a row. Having checked tomorrow's forecast maybe I should have done it, sleet is on its way 🥶

Looking cold here tomorrow but still fine I think. You are so right about being in the right mood for an intervals run. I think now that I know how much fun it can be I will really try to take the approach of throwing myself at it!!
