Hello Everyone and Happy New Year. Today is an extra parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely 2024.

Good morning everyone and Happy New Year. This morning I travelled to Porch Field parkrun which is 15 minutes away from me. I walked this morning with my Cocker Spaniel Ruby. I was feeling much better today and walked it in a time of 45:56. The weather was perfect, a beautiful still frosty morning.
As recommended on the C25K forum I bought some merino socks. I was told that my feet would get wet but they would stay warmFirst time I went through an icy, muddy puddle I was disappointed because my feet were very cold, but after 5 minutes or so I realised that they were toasty warm.
I don't know how that works but now I know to just grit my teeth and hit the puddle then I can soon forget about the cold.
I have been told that is why fishermen (and sheep 🐑 ) wear the thick woollen jumpers, even wet they keep the body warm.
Glad to hear you are feeling better and sounds like a lovely morning.
Due to logistics, we stayed relatively local (well still a 40min drive) to nearest ParkRun which was on in Tonbridge. We did this one in June 2022 so had half an idea what to expect. What we didn’t prepare for was quite a few areas were flooded. Everyone was trying to avoid these which churned up the fields so a very muddy with me slip sliding around in places. There were a couple of spots which you couldn’t avoid the water so ankle deep about 1km into the start.
Despite this, the weather stayed dry, not too windy but overcast. The race director told us all to take it easy today and I think nearly everyone did that.
Pleased to get a PB there - 35.44 and shoes now a lovely shade of brown not turquoise 😬
Thanks Dexy5 . Managed to get the shoes all washed before the torrential started here. We bought a boot dryer (normally used for skiing but we’ve never been skiing!) just before Christmas to try out to see if it dries the shoes a bit quicker so will give that a whirl tomorrow.
Be careful it doesn’t affect the glue in the shoes Beth. They aren’t made in the way that ski boots are. Might be worth seeking advice first. I find newspaper works a treat.
Good afternoon Damien and all, and a happy New Year! Well, Katnap and I finally did it! We did our Bushy Pilgrimage. A Carpe Diem moment if ever we had one. Up at 5.45am to make the 100+mile journey but it’s been a great way to start the year.
Numbers were down on Christmas Day by about half at 1215. Guessing there were a lot of hangovers. We did ok with sub 30s to start the year off, I’ll definitely take that.
Here’s hoping our course has dried off for Saturday so we can run at home again. Have a great runny week all xxx

Absolutely! There may be more judging by how flooded we are at the moment too, it’s not looking too clever on the riverbanks. We had a very nice bacon and egg bap, delicious 😋
Fantastic. Well done to you both. Great to get the pilgrimage done. Would love to try running there sometime. Well done too on a sub 30 minute parkrun.
Thanks Damien, hopefully that sub 30 is going to be back to being a normal time for me again 🤞 The odd thing about Bushy is that we build it up to being such a big thing and it’s just like any other parkrun really, just a bit bigger.
Happy New Year damienair and all you lovely parkrunners . We were entertained by one of our runners playing auld lang syne on bagpipes this morning and there was a great atmosphere. I haven’t analysed the results yet but my watch said 33.10 and parkrun 33.59. Portsmouth Lakeside parkrun wasn’t on today so lots of visitors from there to make 433 this morning.
