I joined a thing 🤣🤣🤣

And followed instructions for the first 30 minutes then went a bit rogue. So I joined a thing, downloaded an app, received loads of emails and am following some sort of plan. But we all know me! I'll probably fizzle out after a couple of weeks, uh oh no I can't, I have 2 weeks to play with the app, do what I can and then I'm getting a 2 month free training plan that is designed to get me running a half marathon distance 🤣🤣🤣😳😳😳🤣🤣🤣

Right, now we've finished laughing, I was supposed to do the first sample run yesterday, it was raining again so I had a lazy day.

After some exploring in the app I found I could change the day so I changed it to today.....

Looked easy, 5 mins warm up, 6 minutes with 1 minute recovery several times, I really should learn to read things to the end!

Off I set, now why did I think this was based on heartrate? And I'd spend most of it walking to keep my heartrate down? Silly me 🤣 it was based on pace 😜

The 5 minute warm up pace was a good brisk walk, then 6 minutes at a comfortable pace, um well for a couple of minutes, then I realised it wasn't quite so comfortable for 6 minutes but doable, 1 minute recovery and I'm enjoying myself. The sun is shining, I remembered my hat so it's not in my eyes, I'm smiling and have a good playlist on. I'm glancing at my watch every so often which shows pace and what it should be and a count down timer. So, I don't really know how far I'm going but it's just running and walking. 3 sessions of 6 minutes and I'm calculating how many more and when to turn for home when the next one is 16 minutes! What! I never read about that 🤣🤣🤣

And it's slower and my legs were beginning to feel it so I went a bit rogue and ran a bit walked a bit.

Then it was done! But.....I wasn't home. The watch went back to normal run display told me I'd covered 4.5k in 45 minutes, so I ran until I got to 5k, in just under 50 minutes, stopped the watch and walked about half a kilometre home.

Tomorrow I'm scheduled a 45 minute fartlek run, that's parkrun 😁 but what's this? After that there's a 25 minute recovery run 🤔 I'll move that to another day and oh my word 😮 then there's 30 minute whole body strength training.. ... But hey Sunday is a rest day.

This is going to be fun 😀

Happy Friday and if you want my advice don't join a thing 🤣🤣🤣

I didn't have time to take photos today

🤣🤣🤣

yes, read to the end! I’ve only got workouts listed up to the middle of December so I don’t know what’s coming up. Although sometimes I think my coach is trying to break me!

Your plan sounds like hard work! Was the run you did today a benchmark run?

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Jools2020

It was called a sample run, as it was my first one, the email said just do what you can for the first couple of weeks then my own personal plan will be designed from what I've done so far, and as most of today's run was in zone 6 😮 I expect they'll phone me and say dial 999 🤣, but I felt fine and recovery was quick, I've done a load of housework since, runs like that energise me, mind you I'll probably need a wheelchair for parkrun tomorrow 🤣🤣🤣.

Perhaps you should take it easy at parkrun 😊

I shall walk most of it, I'm not chasing personal bests 😀

Good for you. That’s sounds like you’ve done a marathon already. Exhausted reading it. Enjoy and your parkrun

It sure did, never know what you’re going to come up with. A bit of variation. You’re certainly enjoying your retirement. Wonder how you fill your days.

I swore I'd never say it but....wonder how I found time to work such long hours 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and to think I thought I'd miss it 😀. I was going to go back on a relief basis but once I'd left that idea went out the window. I spend a lot of time reading, shuts the world out, I seem to have friends who want to see me which was a surprise, and spend lots of time with daughter and grands. It's different to what was planned but it's ok a lot of the time.

Yes sometimes I wonder how I had time to work😀

Work definitely gets in the way as I recall. I'm semi retired, work from home in my own business and can do it from anywhere which is the dream, no bosses :)

Sounds like a pretty good run to me, glad to know I'm not the only person who finds that their comfortable run takes them to the maximum Zone!!

Nice to work for yourself. That comfortable run was fine but it did make my legs ache a bit, I'll be walking most of parkrun

oh my Sue…what have you done! 🤣

Just joking…good to see you’ve found a plan…even if you end up going a little rogue!

Have fun! 🏃🏻‍♀️🐌😊

I haven't got a clue what I've done Lottie, but I'll stick it as long as I can and see what happens, it's part research into how their plans increase fitness, and I guess part hoping to sell me another plan in the future, it's fun though. Garmin isn't impressed with me lately but who cares? Not me

are you sure you want to do parkrun tomorrow  SueAppleRun ?

SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Dexy5

No Dexy I'm not! But I'm commited if the weather isn't too bad, if it's on I'll go 😁 my granddaughter is meeting friends and I said I'd look out for a parkwalker who is on this forum.

🍏🤗🤣 Here’s a hug and a laugh with you!! Oh I do identify with making quick decisions without thinking through or reading through the commitment thoroughly. But perhaps it’s adds a bit more adventure & fun to our lives or possibly Oh no, what have I done? Spontaneous decisions often bring the adventures that others never encounter. ☺️

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Annieapple

That's very true, although the 16 minute surprise was interesting, but I'm sure my actual plan won't be as tough. I was expecting a 5 minute cool down too, when it just ended I thought, oh no I'm not home 🤣🤣🤣

Oh, thanks lovely, I'm stuck home with an ear infection and that's made me laugh!

Take it easy on that parkrun /park-jeff/park-whatever-you-end-up-doing 😅

There will be a bit of head scratching when someone tries to customise your plan. "What?? An easy run in zone 6, a tempo run in zone 2, no sign of the strength training" 🤣
