Wet wet wet

It was lovely when I looked out of the window as I drank my coffee. Fantastic, a run in the autumn sunshine. Got into my running gear, to hear Mr Y saying 'It's raining, come and have a look'.

When it rains my cat will check the back door, sniff, turn around and check the front door to make sure the weather is the same there. I felt I was going through the same exercise. Mr Y suggested a short run, just a couple of kms, as otherwise what was the point of having got all dressed up for it?

In the 2 1/2 years since I started C25K I've never set off when it's raining, so this was a novelty. It wasn't too bad at first. I took in the sensation of raindrops on my skin and we skipped most of our warm up walk as otherwise we'd have started getting cold.

We reached the path through the fields. The rain increased. There's a tree and I thought for a minute we might shelter but no, carry on. It got heavier. My glasses were covered in raindrops making it hard to see where I was going.

The path was a choice between mud or very wet grass. Mr Y kept saying 'It's not too bad, it's not too bad!' I refused to contradict him even though the water was running into my eyes by now, stinging. I really didn't need to put myself into a negative frame of mind.

We'd been running for nearly a km when he suggested turning back. Thank goodness, except now we had a headwind to contend with as well as the rain. I took my glasses off. Still couldn't see properly (because I actually do need them).

We reached the end of the path and instead of walking to cool down I ran a bit faster. I just wanted to get home. Checked the NRC app that was tracking my distance, just over 1500 metres covered. Pressed a button and realised too late I'd cancelled the run on the app. Sometimes you've just got to laugh!

🍏SO annoying when you do that and wipe out the run! SO well done on your rainy rain! I find it so helpful to wear a peaked cap!! 🧢 I wear glasses too and this really helps keep the rain off them. Another tip is to do a longer warm up inside, so you can go straight into the rain. Or the cold with warmed up muscles. Well done for getting out there!!!

Thanks for the tip about the hat. It just didn't occur to me that my glasses would be an issue! I'll know for next time (if I ever think it's a good idea again )

I did my Sunday longer run yesterday all in the rain and wind, i set off when it was raining, and it got heavier and i had to run in the road down the back streets as the pavements were a bit slippy with all the leaves from the trees on the ground, but you know what.......i absolutely loved it! i was dripping wet when i got home but i wear a visor with a long peak on it so kept the rain from my eyes... , but boy did i feel good. Ofcourse you get the nobs that drive through puddles to soak you i just smiled and thought well i am already soaking wet so it made no difference 🤣

I have to say it felt really good to have overcome the urge to sit at home and have another coffee, if I'd been able to see I'd probably have carried on further.

Lots more rain forecast this week, better find myself a waterproof hat

As I had to remind myself: You did the run whether or not the app tracked it! And you have the photo to prove it, too. Congratulations 🥳

I second wearing a cap to keep your glasses dry(er). I had my first rainy run last week - and they worked wonders. My jacket not so much - it's only wind-proof, so doesn't keep the rain at bay. It's on my list to get...

Thanks, I would have worn a jacket but the lightweight waterproof is on the boat (fat lot of good it's doing there) and the other one has disappeared. My sons used to have lots of lightweight jackets I could have borrowed but they're all gone too.

Maybe I need to buy one.....

Rain cap as Annieapple says.. BIG brim...keeps out sun, rain, hail and snow! Mine are Trail Heads....Huge well done you... a) for the run and b) for surviving the rain! x

Thanks for the recommendation Oldfloss , I had a look at the Trail Heads hats on Amazon and ended up with a cheaper cross between a beanie and a hat which promises to keep my ears warm and has a hole for my pony tail to poke out. Ordered a new running jacket too...expensive day lol

Yup, it's lovely ke that here too and I wimped out, I do wear a peaked cap though in the rain to keep my glasses clear so I can see, well done you for going in that weather

Why aren't glasses designed with windscreen wipers in this country? Hopefully you won't be needing them much longer
