Woke up to rain, Willow pointed this out to me as i sat in bed drinking my tea but it’s my day off and i want to run! so a little discussion about the sort of rain it is. I was just getting to the sage of..... why bother we can’t run what’s the point of having a day off.....when i looked out, said it’s only drizzle but i totally understand if you don’t want to, i will go on my own when we both pulled on running clothes and off we went

I set up a 5k easy run on my garmin and it was easy and slow, very wet, a few dog walkers in the park, I ran off the track onto the grass and under the trees, it was lovely 😊 then my music stopped so ran without listening to the wind in my ears and my breathing that isn’t too loud,

I ran by the golf course and someone was there so ran through the middle, boy it’s windy when out from the shelter of the park, ran back to find Willow and ran the last kilometre together then i carried on a bit while Willow finished

We felt so pleased we ran so off to the bank, then to boots then a bit of a drive to my favourite sweet shop, drop the money off at work and home, coffee and next on my list is hot bath

Keep safe keep well and if you can keep running

Oh and Garmin added another year onto our fitness ages, we don’t much like garmin lol 😂

Garmin's formula seems to favour intervals rather than long runs. It's interesting to track, but is ultimately only a rough guess at your fitness level.

I know, o got so excited when i was 49 but steadily going up and now 56 lol 😂

Mine dipped three points in the last week of C25K when I originally did it. It recovered and improved when I was doing interval runs earlier this month but is has stayed static now I'm on the continuous runs phase of C25K. I expect it to dip a little over the next weeks.

There seems to be an option on Garmin watches deep in the menus to do a specific VO₂Max measurement run or walk. I've not tried it yet, so don't know what it entails. (My Stats → VO2 Max. Swipe up. Test Now.)

Oh thank you I hadn’t seen that, I will see if mine does that

Oow, interesting. I must investigate, thanks for that info. 👍

Good post and a lovely photo of both of you, so you discussed what sort of rain it was, in the UK you get all sorts of rain with local names, for example in Scotland drizzle is called smir, fine rain, if it's not too heavy you can go a walk or a run, the worst kink of rain is freezing rain which as the name suggests freezes on impact and is dangerous, nice easy 5K for you, that was unkind of Garmin adding one year on to your fitness age, just ignore him.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to AlMorr

Thanks Al we are ignoring Garmin

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

It's a case of the faster you run Mr Garmin will give you a lower age, if you ran a 5K in 20 minutes he would say that you are 25 or younger, if you ran a 5K in 55 minutes, well goodness knows what age he would say that you were, as you say, ignore him.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to AlMorr

It’s because we have both been injured then and taking it slow because we don’t want to stop running

In my world Mrs Garmin is definitely female. 🤔

Who IS this Garmin? 😂

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to 59er

Garmin sports watch, gives me a fitness age of 56

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Mine gives me a score of 41 and an age of 42. It does seem to like when you do short intervals running over longer runs.

SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to nowster

Maybe that’s the trick then thanks

WHAT A PICTURE!

TEAM WILLOWLA 🙂

That bath and coffee after make it so worthwhile! Great run in beautiful rain 🌧.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

There’s no doubt you have got the running bug W&S , and you are sailing through the magic plan. Enjoy that hot bath 🛀 and the rest of your day off.

Thanks Dexy I have always run, what’s so good is that Willow runs with me because he really didn’t want to in the beginning but soon wanted to run more than me

Love that pic!

I can't believe you sat in bed discussing what type of rain it was. It's wet of course !! 😂

I like running in the rain - unless it is torrential, when I would think twice.

It has been raining harder and harder all day today. I may have to rethink the route for my run tomorrow morning as the road was flooded on Sunday.

Mr Garmin is being very rude to me as well lately. I am ignoring him 😁

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Birdlady64

Poor old garmin we are all ignoring him, I shouldn’t moan about 56 but i liked it better when he said my fitness age was 49

I was in bed Willow was leaning out the window smoking hence the discussion about rain , he’s a London boy I don’t think they went out in the rain, me I was brung up on a farm we went out whatever the weather

I now like running in the rain and it did get harder and harder, I did wonder what the bank would think of me but i stood 2 meters apart from a woman just back from a dog walk so all their customers (all 2 of us) were very wet

The lady in boots was quite interested in the reason i looked like a drowned rat as was the young girl in the sweet shop, We do usually go straight home after a run but today we may not have got out again so got the other things done first

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Ha Ha! I have this image in my head now of you literally standing inside the bank, Boots and the sweet shop in a big pool of water 😂

I hope you bought some nice sweeties 😋

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Birdlady64

Clove drops oh and a few fruit sweets and a little Edinborough rock, we don’t go there very often

You would be surprised how many people love a clove sweet lol,

Not quite a pool of water but hair dripping

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Ooh I haven't had clove drops for years!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Birdlady64

I had a few winter mixture left over from christmas when i gave up smoking in January and remembered that clove drops make cigarettes taste horrible, they don’t sell them in many shops though so it means a trip out so i buy a big bag at a time and loads of people at work look very sad when i run out lol

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Winter mixture...

My mum used to send me to the corner shop once a week for a quarter of winter mixture....😁

It’s one of those things that bring back memories

Elfe5 profile image

Yaay good for you.🎉😄

I love running in the rain- there is just something about being immersed in the elements! ...But I only love it wearing my trusty breathable, waterproof cycling jacket because I like a warm torso- everything else can get wet. 😄 I also wear a running cap to keep the rain off my glasses.

PS How rude of Garmin - ignore! 😉

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Elfe5

Poor old garmin yes it seems a lot of us ignore

I went out wearing a hoodie which i tied round my waist after a couple of kilometers but i noticed the cold round my waist and hips when i untied it at the end to put back on

Most the run was done with bare shoulders

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Mum22boys

We really did thanks, we rarely have roast potatoes with our dinners but for a treat we did today and they were just right

I’m not a huge fan of the rain and we have had a lot lately but it wasn’t cold and cooling rain on my face and arms was somehow nice

Me too 😉...I’m in training this year to ‘embrace the rain’...and the rest..🥶..😬 WillowandSola!! 😂😂! So, I’m training my brain to think of the ‘wonderful’, ‘satisfied’, ‘smiley’, hot showers, after the run. I definitely think it will be put to the test today too. 🌧 🏃🏽‍♀️ 🚿 😄

The sun will be back! We can do it!! ❤️

Entertaining as usual. Thank you Willow and Sola for the images...... 🤣😁🤗 and well done for getting out there. Definitely ignore Mr Garmin!! I don't run with him but love running in drizzle to keep the beetroot and radishes from taking hold. The slippery mud on the trails where I run make it almost impossible to run quickly and safely so at the moment I am yoyoing on Runkeeper from 3rd/4th fastest to 29th/38th fastest (I LOVE it says..... fastest 🤣🤣) due to trying to keep upright on a muddy trail!! That's probably why you are suddenly older again. Just wait until it's drier and you will suddenly be 21 yet again 🤗🤗🤷‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️. Have fun!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to apatsyf

Aww thank you and yes it’s harder work on muddy trails, the being something ‘fastest’ is just great
