Help with Apps

Hi!

Long time lurker- I love the advice on here, but I'm seeking some specific info!!

Finished C25K ages ago but I've been running week 9 run 2 on a loop for ages.

I read somewhere that a good way to progress next would be to do three runs a week- twenty minutes, thirty minutes and then a progressively longer run on the third one. I've tried to find it on this forum but I can't remember where I saw it.

Anyway, I like this idea- it would fit well with work patterns and so on.

Can anyone suggest how I might achieve this in one of the other running apps? I'd want to do a five minute warm up/ warm down walk in addition to the run, like in C25K, then hopefully have some timer markings as it goes along. I don't necessarily need every 2.5 minutes like Jo Whiley does, and I don't really need the coaching, just a time marker.

I've downloaded a few apps since finishing but then got confused about how to get what I need from them- so any help would be really gratefully received!!

Thank you in advance- you're all lovely :-)

PS- I ran +4k for the first time ever this week, in the 40m of week 9 run 2. I graduated a long, long time ago. Like a couple of years. So, if you're still running very slowly like me, and feel like you're not getting anywhere, do persevere. I felt so, so proud of myself, and I now feel 5k might actually be in sight one day! Keep on keeping on!

Nike Run Club App, "NRC", is great. Has loads of options for runs.

Strava will give you prompts along the way

I'm using a 30min Workout that I created, in Garmin Connect, with the 5Min Warm up/Cool down.

Another recommendation for Nike Running Club. It's free and you don't need to buy Nike stuff to use it 😁You can either choose guided runs or set it for a specific time or distance. I usually set a distance and it tells me my average pace every km, plus at the halfway point. I assume there's something similar for distance.

I'm a fan of the guided runs too. Lots of choices - by time or distance also different kinds of runs like intervals, tempo, speed and fartlek. I've learnt a huge amount from this app.

I too can recommend Nike Run Club app, you can choose a run by time or go for a distance run, there are plans to follow too and the commentary certainly passes the time

Thank you everyone. I had Nike and just thought you had to use their run, I didn't realise you could set your own. I'll give it another go! :-)

Even if you use their guided runs, there are so many times or distances to choose from, that you're sure to find one that fits the bill.. you could follow the magic plan in the pinned posts here, but choose an appropriate guided run each time you go out. Have fun 😊

Hi, if you search for ‘The magic plan information centre’ on the search bar above that’s the 5-10k plan that suggest similar, a shorter run then normal then a longer to build up to 10k/1hr. If you fancy it, Good luck.

Oh how silly of me, I read Ju Ju's magic plan when I first graduated ages ago, I just didn't put two and two together there!! That's great, thank you 😁

If you want to do time based runs, simply set a countdown timer on your watch or phone. You don't need a specialist app for that. You could even use a kitchen timer.

For distance based runs, you could do a little planning ahead with a tool like plotaroute.com (you don't need an account unless you want to save routes).

What I'm hoping to find is something that will count down for me to help me pace it, so sort of give me markers. I know the Nike app will count distance for me, but I can't make it count time. I think run keeper might do it?

Thank you everyone, you're all being really helpful :-)

I've just seen this, there are some times runs in NRC, I often do a 30 min 45 min or 60 my n run, I've even done a 90 min run, and there are even 15 min guided runs on there, I'm sure I've seen a 1 mind run too, the coach tells you how long you've run and how longs left if that's what you are looking for.
