I had planned a 3K run at the lake when Strava warned me that I might be overdoing it! Not sure if Iโve ever had that warning before. Anyway, 3K seemed like a good idea. This will be my last run up here for a while as Iโm going back home tomorrow. Iโve stayed up here for longer that usual as the train strikes interfered with my plans.
A promise of a warm day up here today, but it was relatively cool at the lake with a misty start. It was quite busy with a running event later on and some kind of fishing competition. Neither really affected us although I was curious about the running event! I had a quick look after my run and it seemed to be a charity run organised by a local hockey club.
A few stretches at the car and we set off on our warm up walk. My plan was a simple one, Iโd run for 1.5 km, then turn round and run back. Perhaps up the pace a little on the way back. There were a few dog walkers about as well as some fisherman congregating, about to set up. I also noticed a few directional arrows presumably for the runners. Everyone I meet is in good spirits! A gentleman walking his dog saw me running and put the dog on a lead, for which I thanked him. Not sure what he said by way of reply, still havenโt got used to the local accent ๐คฃ
For some reason I struggle on this route with the second km. Maybe itโs to do with the Toxic 10. I try and run through it but perhaps I need to slow down more for the first km. I havenโt managed negative splits for ages - although the trend for the whole run was a faster second half.
I meet my partner on the way back and he passes me the car keys! Thatโs good because Iโll be able to put my jacket on. Sadly the cafรฉ will be closed. Perhaps weโll be organised enough to bring coffee with us next time!
I stepped it out a bit for the last km and finished strong which always makes me feel good. Hopefully Iโm getting rid of the after effects of Covid. ๐
