4K at the lakeside πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

I did have plans to run all the way round Lake Rudyard, but we had a lot of rain here yesterday and part of the route is akin to trail running. Lots of wet leaves and slopes and I didn’t want to slip! So I’ll keep an eye on things but I may decide to wait until my next visit.

We ran by the side of the lake on the flat side this morning. My partner has just finished Couch to 5K and is consolidating with 30 minute runs. I wanted to do 4K, which at my current fitness level (still struggling a little after Covid) takes me about 35 minutes.

The temperature was about 14. Not cold enough for running tights yet! Happy in my shorts and t-shirt. For me, almost perfect running weather - maybe I like it just a couple of degrees cooler.

We did our warm up walk together and then I took off. Although I’m a slow runner, I’m faster than he is! I focussed on my own run, feeling really speedy as I left him way behind🀣

I was listening to one of the β€˜You’re dead to me’ podcasts and I lost it after about 10 minutes. Tried to play some music, but couldn’t do that either! So resigned myself to just running, thinking and listening 😊. It wasn’t a hardship, I love running here!

I turned round at 2K and headed back to the start. I met a few dog walkers and without dog walkers and exchanged greetings with all of them. Strangely no runners this morning. I managed to pick up the pace a little for the last kilometre and finished happy.

Hoping to do a long run while I’m up here.

It's a LOT of years since I was at Rudyard, but it was a favourite outing for the family as Leek was so close to us. What a great place to run! And now you are team running (ish) too!

Yes! I was a little disappointed as we walked the 7.5 km all round the lake last time I was up and wanted to run it this time. But I slipped on wet leaves on my run through the woods last week and didn’t want to take any chances. I was fortunate to escape with a grazed elbow !

Phew! A bump is way better than the alternative!

Sounds like a great run, and the best when they end on a positive feeling. And a new running apprentice soon to be alongside you all the way! Lake Rudyard looks lovely! Hope the weather stays good for you to do your nice long run later in the week. X

Thank you! It is lovely. I think there’s another lake nearby to explore.

What a lovely place to run Jools, very wise to avoid the wet leaves and slopes too.

Nice run Jools and how lovely to have a special running partner and such a beautiful place to run in too. Really happy for you. Wet leaves can be very slippery so probably sensible to wait for it to dry out a bit
