ok so after your encouraging posts I completed my first run of 5K - it wasn’t too bad but the thought of a run twice this long is terrifying 😩

Well done for your first 5K! Huge milestone.

In working towards 10K you’ll be getting fitter all the time and increasing your distance and time on your feet gradually. You’ll get there!

thank you 😄

Well done 😀💪👍🙂

You’re nibbling away at the distance though rather than all in one go! Take your time, enjoy the journey, and you’ll get there. There may be bumps in the road but that’s normal 🙂👍

Why...? Just 5K twice..🤣🤣 Slow and steady...as misswobble says...nibbling away and taking your time... you'll do it!

Mornin OF 😀👋

I recall getting a bit bogged down doing Bridge to 10k, and having to re-do runs. It’s fine though. We just keep plugging away. It’s fun to be outdoors just moving 🙂🏃‍♀️

thanks I’m sure I will - I did it before I can do it again 😄

Well done on your 5K  MsFickle !

I'm guessing that during C25K the thought of running for 20 minutes non-stop, let alone 30 minutes, or 5K, was pretty terrifying too? Nobody's asking you to go out and do 10K right now!

Also, I think there's a lot of mileage (pun absolutely intentional) in what  Oldfloss says - it's just 5k, twice. I break runs down mentally into do-able chunks all the time. For me concentrating on an achievable immediate challenge, rather than worrying about the scary whole thing, is much more helpful.

Have fun!

this is true I’m taking 1 week at a time 😄

Trust in the programme and keep your long runs SLOW! You absolutely can do this!🙂👍

As many on this forum will tell you, 'you're never too old'. Many of us started of a certain age and are still enjoying. Well done for starting in the first place 😁👍

It’s a very different mindset setting out knowing you’re running 10k to knowing you’re running 5k, and nobody is asking you to do that any time soon! You’ve got loads of time and a sensible build up (that you can slow down if you need to). Take it steady and you’ll get there when you’re ready. I bet when you started couch to 5k, the thought of running for thirty minutes was terrifying but you did it.

Can you identify what it is that’s you’re finding terrifying? Is there anything on this week’s runs that’s worrying you? Perhaps just focussing on the runs you’re doing at the moment and letting the bigger goal just come to you might help?

MsFickleGraduate10 in reply to MissUnderstanding

it is a different mindset and I enjoyed c25K if there was an app I’d be fine - but hey ho I have to try my best 😄

If you like guided runs, you could use something like the Nike Run Club app with the magic plan-just choose recovery/easy runs of the right length. That could work well. They have their own 10k plan too but you have to look up the runs and it takes a bit more thought-they offer 5 runs a week so I’d either choose three or make a week last longer! That’s here…

CBDB might be able to tell you what she thought of it? I really like the Nike Run Club runs (although I haven’t done that particular plan, I’ve done a lot of the runs included). It’s a bit cheesy but free and easily deletable if it’s not for you!

yeah, I’m also a fan of the NRC app, but also a fan of the Magic plan. Me feeling is that the Magic plan is more “solid”, but the NRC 10k plan is more “fun”. But both got me to 10k in the past.

Hi, I'm on Ju Ju's plan. On Tuesday I ran 7K and was surprised how well it went, and I feel confident that I can do 8K next week. I'm 65 and I've had problems on the C25K with caf strains, meaning I had to rest and redo some weeks. I'm quite prepared to face similar problems in the future (I'm doing strength training to build up my legs). Having said all that, I'm enjoying the plan and hope you do too! 🤓

MsFickle profile image
MsFickleGraduate10 in reply to Steady_Stevve

wouldn’t say enjoying it - but I am enthusiastic and feel great once I’ve made the effort - just need to go faster 🥲

I did a PB 5K on Saturday. 30 mins 28 secs. I'm hoping to get sub 30 mins. I'm doing some interval runs after my short run. The plan seems to be working for me. Take care and keep running 🏃‍♂️ ✨️

MsFickle profile image
MsFickleGraduate10 in reply to Steady_Stevve

that’s excellent - I have not run 5K in less than 36 mins for a long long time - I have heard of interval running maybe I try that 😂

There was a link to 30-20-10 training on the post a few weeks ago. I tried it 2 weeks ago. It was good and not too exhausting.

I remember also thinking 10k was an impossible goal but there's a reason JuJu's magic plan is called "magic" !

I do hope so 😀

It's stages , isn't it? I've done 3 or 4 x 5k now, as well as quite a few 4k. I graduated a month ago, I think. And a couple of months before that the idea of 20 minutes running was absurd.

I think I am now on the same path as you.

I don't want to run 5k over and over again. I am dramatically fitter than I was, but now believe I can get stronger.

We'll get there!

I do hope so I would like to think I could do 10K for Autumn- my enthusiasm in my head is there just not my body lol

Hi MsFickle, I felt exactly the same, but the Magic Plan with its three runs is nothing to fear.

I found doing an out and back run for the longest run of the week made it easier as you are only running a little bit further each time, and the return run always feels a bit easier as you retrace your steps and are counting down distance. The short run I used as a recovery run giving my legs a bit of a treat...

Good luck as you succeed, I know you will... the Magic is there waiting to be unlocked.

🏃‍♀️👌xxx

thank you - I decided to push ahead with the last run of week 2 (6k) first - as I know the weather isn’t looking clever - I will hopefully run the shorter one Tuesday - just hoping my pace gets better- looking at other peoples statistics mines tortoise pace lol x
