Why oh why can't I sleep?

Yet another night if little sleep! Then when I did sleep I dreamed; and was awake within the hour. I set my alarm for this morning and when I woke remembered we were going for a run. I really didn't feel like it so put my old Brooks on which are the shoes I now use for walking. To the river if course and my lovely neighbour is bright and raring to go, week 4 run 2 for her. Me? I couldn't resist and after the warm up walk I took it really slowly and kept going. At the bridge were at least 50 school children, we weren't going to get past that lot as they set off walking north, so south it was, a different view and we ran into town, past blocks of flats that have glass fronted balconies overlooking the river. Turned before we got to the main road and back again. It's breezy this morning and not so hot, perfect running weather

The river looks blue, we see lots of birds and butterflies, I'm tired but can speed up a bit at the end. My neighbour finishes her run with a big grin on her face, our next planned run isn't until Monday, I have parkrun and she has a week of birthday celebrations but will walk most days.

Run happy all, run free.

Sounds like you managed to rally yourself for your run. I know how you feel - I just can't do any form of exercise when I've had a bad night. Sometimes I'm awake for 2-3 hours which has a huge impact the following day. . One thing I have started doing is taking an anti-histamine tablet before bed! I did this because during Covid I read an article by a doctor who said he was having trouble sleeping. This was his way of getting some sleep. I have to say - it works 😀

Antihistamines knock me out but leave me feeling groggy the next day too, I'm due a couple of good nights coming up

Ahh, I can sympathise greatly with the sleep thing! But you didn't put pressure on yourself, did what you felt like and ended up with a run that sounds gentle, viewful and just what you needed. A lovely photo ❤. Enjoy the rest of your week and Parkrun 🏃‍♀️.

Well done for getting out there despite little sleep! It is awful when you can't sleep. I found that having a small snack around half an hour to an hour before bedtime helps sometimes. Apparently sweets or chocolate are not ideal as they tend to heat the body up at night. If something is niggling me (worry wise) I get up and write it down, or I list things down that are bugging me or things I need to remember..... this sometimes helps! At other times, I think of 5 good or positive things about the day or things that I have achieved that day, rather than focussing on negative things. Box breathing can help too. NHS have a good link on breathing techniques.

Have a Google of Magnesium Glycinate for sleep - it was recommended to me and I think it helps - I take 3 before bed 😴💤

Sorry to hear you aren’t sleeping well Sue. I put a pouch of lavender flowers from my garden inside my pillow slip and it is working wonders. Some essential oil on a tissue works just as well. Maybe that might help. I can guarantee you won’t sleep well on Friday as you’ll be so excited about parkrun. Don’t let it put you off, we’re all the same. 😃

I'm an insomniac anyway, but the last 3-4 weeks have been dire. I had one night of 7 hours in that time, but most nights it is 4-5. I've started to sleep train myself! 🤣
